  1. What are your student learning goals for this degree program?

Students in the sport management emphasis area will obtain a breadth of understanding about the sport industry,the business of sport, and management principles related to sport, and apply this understanding in academic and professional settings. Ultimately, at the end of Sport Management program, students will:

a)Goal 1: Be able to have knowledge and skills related to the Commission on Sport Management Accreditation (COSMA) Common Professional Component (CPS) content areas

b)Goal 2: Be able to engage in research and demonstrate information literacy in order to contribute to and analyze the existing body of research in sport management

c)Goal 3: Be able to demonstrate professional and community engagement through participation in fieldwork, internships, and and/or service learning activities (Goal 3)

  1. What are your learning objectives and outcomes associated with each student learning goal?

At the end of their master’s course work students will:

a)Successfully complete a comprehensive exam, which assesses the extent to which students have knowledge skills related to COSMA CPS areas (meet Goal 1)

Specific learning outcomes in line with knowledge and skills related to COSMA CPS areas are as follows:

(a) Students will demonstrate an understanding of sport management principles

(b) Students will demonstrate an understanding of leadership in sport organizations.

(c) Students will demonstrate an understanding of sport operations management, and event and venue management.

(d) Students will demonstrate an understanding of ethics in sport administration.

(e) Students will demonstrate competencies in sport marketing.

(f) Students will demonstrate an understanding of the principles of sport finance.

(g) Students will demonstrate an understanding of accounting principles and their application to sport organizations.

(h) Students will demonstrate an understanding of the principles of economics and their application to sport organizations.

(i) Students will demonstrate an understanding of the legal aspects of sport.

(j) Students will be able to explain and categorize all aspects of the day-to-day operations of professional setting in area of externalexperience, as well as discriminate the duties, rules and responsibilities of professionals in the area of external experience.

  1. Where will the objectives be addressed in your program? In which courses and which activities will they be addressed?

Answer: The objectives will be addressed throughout the program by:

a)Designing the curriculum and course syllabi to align with North American Society for Sport Management (NASSM)/National Association for Sport and Physical Education (NASPE) or Commission onSport Management Accreditation (COSMA) standards

b)How will you assess each objective?

Answer: Each objective will be assessed:

a)For objective 1, students will be assessed by assignments, examinations, and grades in the following seven courses: (a) HSCI 7330; (b) HSCI 7331; (c) HSCI 7332; (d) HSCI 7333; (e) HSCI 7334; (f) HSCI 7335; and (g) HSCI 7336.

b)For objective 2, students will be assessed by assignments, examinations, and grades in the following two courses: (a) HSCI 7301 and (b) 7302. In addition, students who involve in thesis and research project will be assessed.

c)For objective 3, students will be assessed by the submission of various required documents/paperwork for internship (time sheet, activity log, internship report, site supervisor evaluation, student evaluation).
