Only $279 for each three-semester-unit course ($93 per semester unit)
The University of the Pacific is the oldest private institution of higher learning in the State of California. It is fully accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges. These courses are for Graduate Professional Development, NOT for pursuing an advanced degree. They may be applied towards advancement on the salary schedule.

ON-SITE INSTRUCTOR-BASED COURSES – see next page for more details
· With the exception of our self-designed courses, (held at several locations) all on-site courses are held at Iron Horse Middle School, 12601 Alcosta Blvd., San Ramon.
· Directions: Off of 680, take the Crow Canyon Road exit. Head east. Make a right on
Alcosta Blvd. IHMS is about 1 block on your right side.
· Each on-site course: $279 for three-semester-units of credit. Tuition is non-refundable.
· You must call to reserve your spot as soon as possible. Space is limited. Reserve your spot by phone or email. (925-837-3817, )
· Register and pay for on-site courses in person on the first or second day of class.
· If you need to miss one or two days of class, make-up work may be arranged with the instructor.
· All-on-site courses require ten hours of outside work, practical to you, to be explained the first day of class.
· Some on-site courses have an additional supply fee, not to exceed $45.
· Grading policy, make-ups, general requirements, etc. will be discussed in person on the first day of class.

Basic Drawing Techniques with Karin Alexander, P EDU 9948
This course will make everyone a better artist, and instruct you on how to teach art to your students. Every teacher will learn basics in doing portraits, perspective, drawing bodies in proportions, etc. Teachers will learn how to use professional art supplies (watercolors, oil pastels, drawing pencils, colored pencils and scratchboard) to create fabulous drawings. Everyone is successful in this course – guaranteed!

Mosaics Across the Curriculum with Joy Seitz
P EDU 9723
This enjoyable and practical course will introduce you to the fun and forgiving art of mosaic making. Joy will teach you basic techniques with tile, glass, stone, found and natural objects. Joy will also give you applications for integration with other subjects as well as project ideas for your K-12 classroom. Don’t miss this great course that is only offered during the summer.

Science/Environmental Education – Ready-To Use Hands-On Activities and Lessons for K-6 Teachers

Don’t miss this fantastic new make-and-take course. You will gain knowledge of science/environmental curriculum that connects to State science standards. You will enjoy developing creative lesson plans that will integrate science/environmental education activities with language arts, math and fine arts. You’ll gain lesson plans in plant presses, watersheds school gardening, sun prints and more! Bring the outdoors into your classroom.

In this course for K-12 teachers, you will enjoy hands-on activities that are standards-based and integrated with language arts, math, science and social studies curriculum. You will acquire many lesson plans, develop project samples, and enhance your curriculum with art projects that your students will thoroughly enjoy.

Jewelry-Making Across the Curriculum with Joy Seitz, P EDU 9718
While you are creating beautiful projects and learning skills in beading, stringing and wire-working, you’ll also be learning how to incorporate jewelry-making across the curriculum. You will learn connections to math, science, art, language and history.
This will be one of the most fun and practical courses you can take. Give yourself a gift and take this course. The gift will carry on to your students.
Since this course is jam-packed with new t4echniques and project ideas, many teachers choose to take it several times. TRAVEL COURSE TO THE BRITISH ISLES IN 2009

Self-Designed Courses
Work In Your Own Classroom Or At Home

Only $85 per semester unit of credit (Price increase effective June 1, 2006, $93 per unit)
Graduate Level, Professional Growth Courses for Advancement on the Salary Scale and for renewal of Clear Credentials (not designed for attainment of an advanced degree).
Three Easy-To-Follow Steps for Unit Credit:
- Register by phone or email – Registration is open all year long, any time you are ready. We can email or send you a registration form and available course titles.
- Keep a log of the after-school work you do in the classroom or at home. Assorted, different professional activities count (i.e., one hour you work on a rubric for math, another hour you read children’s literature, another hour you work on aligning curriculum to Standards, etc.) Fifteen hours will earn you one semester unit of credit, 30 hours two units, and 45 hours will earn you three semester units. You have six months (max one year) to complete your log.
- Schedule an appointment after you have completed your log --so you may explain in person what you have accomplished, using your log as a base for discussion.
We have representatives in most school districts, so you won’t need to travel far for your
appointment.
What counts on your log? Any composite of professional work that enhances your knowledge, skills, or curriculum. Examples: Reading, researching, developing, creating, organizing, categorizing, previewing, aligning curriculum to Standards, developing rubrics, etc. Note: You may not count correcting or grading papers, making copies, doing report cards, or parent conferencing.
