Chapter 10: Editing and Pictures Infographics

1) Refer to the photo below:

a. Size this picture to be reproduced four columns wide for a newspaper that uses columns 12 picas (2 inches) wide with 1 pica (1/6 inch) of white space between columns. Show crop marks, even if you decide not to crop anything out of the photo. Indicate the size of the original as cropped, the size of the photo as it will be published and the percentage of reproduction.

b. Write a caption with an overline to accompany this standalone photo. Here is information for the caption:

Who: estimated 300 marchers, sponsored by ProChoice of your state

What: parade by pro-choice group, with anti-abortion adherents watching from along parade route

Where: around state Capitol building in your state

When: yesterday at noon

3) Refer to the following photo:

a. Crop and proportion this photo to fill a space four columns (51 picas or 8-1/2 inches) wide by 28 picas (4-2/3 inches) deep. You may crop one or more of the young dancers from the photo if necessary. Show crop marks, the size of the original as cropped, the reproduction size and the percentage of reproduction.

b. Write a caption for the picture. Unfortunately, the list of names of the children has been misplaced, and it is close to deadline time, so you will have to write the caption without naming the children.

Who: five girls waiting their turn to audition

What: audition for "The Nutcracker"; 28 girls auditioned

Where: at Monroe Auditorium

b. Crop and size the photo so the piece of sculpture alone will be published in a space two columns wide by 46 picas deep. Don't forget to mark the margins for cropping. Specify the size of the original, as cropped, and the percentage of reproduction.
