INTRODUCTION
1.1This information paper intends to present the SESAR Project P.15.2.10
2.SESAR P.15.2.10 Overall scope and goals
2.1The SESAR P.15.2.10Project aims at refining and validating a terrestrial communications infrastructure appropriate for ATM ground/ground communication applications.
2.2The following SESAR members contribute to the project activities: AENA, DFS, DSNA, ENAV, EUROCONTROL,FREQUENTIS, INDRA, SELEX and THALES. INDRA is the leader of the project.
2.3This communications infrastructure must be capable of supporting the existing services (i.e. voice, messaging) and addressing the new concepts to be developed in SESAR, such as SWIM (System Wide Information Management) infrastructure
2.4The SWIM technical infrastructure aims to provide advanced interoperability between Stakeholders enabling data sharing between ATM services across the whole European ATM system (Civil and Military, Ground-Ground and Air-Ground) segments
2.5The main goal of the P15.2.10 is to demonstrate the suitability of PENS (Pan-European Network Service) as the backbone ground/ground communications infrastructure on which the future infrastructure will be built upon to support all the future services
2.6Different activities have been identifiedto demonstrate the suitability of PENS as the backbone ground/ground communication infrastructure, including:
Evaluation of end-to-end PENS performances
Assessment of the end-to-end performances and identification of the gaps/constraints of the PENS infrastructure
3.Current status
3.1The SESAR Project P.15.2.10 Work Breakdown Structure is depicted in the following Figure:
3.2In Q3 2011, initial SESAR VPN implementation is being deployed among SESAR P.15.2.10 partners, and initial verification tests is scheduled to take place in Q4 2011
4.Future steps and expected outcomes
4.1P15.2.10 aims todeliver a common communications infrastructure with enhanced performance and security, capable of integrating all of the ATM data and voice communication services that will make up the future SWIM, addressing the evolution of PENS
4.2This communication infrastructure shall be compliance with the performances verified through the project in order to support required data exchange applications–e.g. VoIP and IP multicast, and the future SWIM-based applications
4.3P.15.2.10 will provide a verification platform for:
IP Multicast, including surveillance (radar) application;
VoIP, including the verification of EUROCAE WG67 specifications;
Messaging applications, such as FMTP or AMHS;
SWIM-based applications, developed under other SESAR projects;
