Coupeville Arts & Antiques Walk Coming

The March 6 quarterly Coupeville Arts & Antiques Walk is the perfect way to cap a day at the annual Penn Cove Mussel Festival. The evening event is a chance to see the latest offerings of fourteen shops in the historic waterfront district, and a temporary exhibit in connection with the festival.

Several galleries are introducing new works and many artists will be in attendance. Here are just a few highlights:

Ann’s Coup d’Art is the working studio and gallery of Ann Wilson. In addition to her popular watercolors, Ann has created a sculpture for public display during the festival. Look for 9-foot tall Lady Shelly of Musselpotamia somewhere in Coupeville.

Michele Kempees, owner of Atelier Michele Studio & Gallery, will unveil the new original painting on which the 2004 Historic Coupeville Arts & Crafts Festival poster will be based. The first 15 customers on Michele’s mailing list will receive free prints of a tulip scene.

Coupeville’s source for artisan breads, a wide range of outstanding wines, cheeses, and other gourmet items is bayleaf. During March, bayleaf will feature the collage and mixed media of Randi Parkhurst.

Blue Heron Studio Gallery features paintings by gallery owner Barbara Marks. A fascinating mix of subjects ranges from the far east to local scenery and wildlife.

Coupeville Antique Mall will celebrate a grand opening this weekend. Proprieter Virginia Walshaw will feature glass, country treasures, and unique garden items.

Island County Historical Society Museum will be open with free admission during this event. Lounge on the front porch and enjoy views of Penn Cove and Mount Baker.

One More Thing is a delightful boutique featuring clothing, accessories, jewelry, banners, flags, and other gift items.

Penn Cove Antiques and The Stray Dog Company offers one of the largest collections of Edison gramophones in the northwest, and a fine selection of collectable pottery and fine glassware.

Penn Cove Gallery will offer a mix of ever-popular scenes and new art. The cooperative gallery’s 29 members always save something exciting for the art walks.

Whidbey Panoramas Gallery will exhibit new works by two of its regular artists and introduce an exciting newcomer to the Whidbey art scene. Gallery owner M. Denis Hill will show new panoramic photos of the island in the snow. New watercolors by Stella Canfield will be up for this exhibit. Rounding out the new offering, the gallery will introduce the impressionist oils of James S. Moore. Moore’s paintings of Ebey’s Prairie and Seattle fishing boats reveal the excitement of an accomplished artist inspired by new surroundings. Moore recently relocated to the Coupeville area after 10 years painting in northern Montana.

Windjammer Gallery and Custom Framing will feature the pottery of Jan and Mike Sells. Stop in to see some new designs by these popular artists.
