HARRY THOMSON

Sadly, the Club lost one of our dear friends and a great character at the beginning of October. Harry Thomson accompanied his wife, Morag, to many of SDRC events and he will be sorely missed for his cheeky banter and his big smile.

QUIZ NIGHT & WINTER LEAGUE PRIZEGIVING 12th APRIL 2016

This is a great fun night with Teams of 4 @ £5 per team. It is being held at The Plough Inn, Forfar DD8 3EW at 7.30pm. Gill Wilson will once again be acting as our Quizmaster. There is a trophy and Easter Eggs up for grabs to the Winners. The Winter League Prizegiving will take place following the Quiz. Please make the effort to come along and collect your rosette and Trophy if you were lucky enough to win one.

CAMPS – YES CAMPS!

As discussed at the AGM, the committee were considering a different venue for camp in 2016, Braeside Of Lindores (www.lindoresxc.co.uk) , Newburgh,Fife KY14 6HU. Some of you may be familiar with the XC course as we have used it for many years.

We reviewed the feedback from this year’s camp which concluded that the camp was a great success but there were a few minor concerns. Lindores does address these minor concerns raised by the survey. There is bothy with electric and wood burner, showers, a mix of nice permanent and new temporary stables, good riding facilities, a well maintained inspected xc course with a revamped water complex, and hay for sale on site. The downside is that it is a bit further away for some members and it can only accommodate 30 campers.

In order to try and accommodate all members who are interested in attending camp, we have decided to run two camps in 2016, 15th-17th April and 5th-7th August. Application forms for the first camp will be issued in February once we have finalised the costs. The closing date will be the end of February; we will then ballot if we have an oversubscription and let everyone know who’s in. Members who get into the April camp WILL NOT get into the August camp unless there is space after other members have been accommodated.

Lindores Lodge is a luxury lodge which sleeps 6+2 has been provisionally booked for club members to use. Members can stay in the Lodge for 3 nights at a rate of £100/per person (www.facebook.com/lindoreslodge). The lodge is available for campers to book but this will be done directly with Lindores on a first come first served basis. Please DO NOT try and book the lodge until you have been told that you have a place at camp.

The instructors for the April Camp have been booked and are Trish Harvey, Jo Wilkie and Hamish Cameron. More camp details will be on the application forms.

SADDLE UP SCOTTISH RIDING CLUB CHAMPS

SDRC did extremely well at the Championships held on 3rd and 4th October. We won the Open Team Dressage Trophy with another of our teams coming in 3rd. We won the Team Style Jumping, the 100cm Team Showjumping and the 90cm Team Horse Trials, were 2nd in the Team 90cm Showjumping and the 100cm Team Horse Trials, 3rd in the Team 80cm Showjumping, Team 90cm Showjumping and 4th in the Team Riding Test. We also had numerous other individual placings. To top off a great weekend, we won the Inaugural Saddle Up International Riding Club Championships Trophy! Well done to all our members who took part as a team member, individual or helper. A huge thanks must go to Claire Shepherd, our Chef D’Equipe for looking after everyone over the weekend.
