Project SEARCH Newsletter – Spring Issue

Project SEARCH Graduation is near!

The 2015-16 school year is coming to a close. Nine interns with Project SEARCH, a program for young adults with disabilities, gained valuable work experience over the past year at University Hospitals Parma Medical Center. From transporting patients in Cardiovascular Services to stocking medicines in the Pharmacy and selling coffee from the Healing Grounds mobile coffee cart, these students learned that there are many ways to serve the public in a community hospital. Interns worked in 12 different departments this year! We have enjoyed assisting your departments and look forward to working with you again in the fall when 9 new interns will be ready to go!

/ Brenna worked at Healing Grounds, Dietary Services and the Pharmacy this year. She is in the process of looking for a job in retail or food service. On Halloween, Brenna liked dressing up as Dr. Who when she sold coffee and snacks to staff and families at the hospital. She plans to participate in a cosplay convention in Cleveland or Chicago this summer.
Daniel was recently hired by UH Parma as a Nutrition Assistant. During his first rotation in the Environmental Services Department, Daniel learned to thoroughly clean and sanitize all areas of the hospital. Daniel is thrilled to be working at UH, and hopes to get as many hours as possible! He warmly recalls training with Matt in Dietary who demonstrated how to properly clean pots and pans. This summer Daniel plans to participate in a flag football league and attend a few Indians games. /
/ Sarah spent time in Central Services, Environmental Services, Employee Health Source and the Cardiovascular Rehabilitation Department where she learned many valuable skills that will assist her in attaining a job in food service or housekeeping. Sarah had a great time folding laundry with William and Parma’s Job Training students earlier this year. She will travel to North Carolina this summer for her cousin’s first birthday party and will also attend a camp in Maine.
Stephen has completed rotations in Central Services, Environmental Services and Nursing Division 3 and 6. He appreciates all of the skills he learned from Lisa, Pat and Dave in the laundry room. Stephen is looking forward to the warmer weather when he can cook out in his backyard and watch his little sister play on the swing set. /
/ Cierra interned in Cardiovascular Services, the Emergency Room and Adult Daycare at the Health & Education Center. Cierra met many wonderful nurses in the ER that taught her valuable skills she will use as she pursues a job in an assisted living facility or nursing home. She has a trip planned to Houston, Texas this summer to visit her relatives.
Greg completed rotations in Cardiovascular Services, Training and Development and Materials Management. He was thrilled when Jody and Renee took him around the hospital to meet doctors during his first internship. This summer Greg plans to vacation at Discovery Island in Florida, and the Outer Banks in North Carolina. /
/ Mike D. worked at Healing Grounds, Materials Management and Cardiovascular Services this year. Mike was thankful for a cookie cake he received from the Materials Management Department when he finished the rotation. He also relished the opportunity to announce the names of new nurse hires at a party for them this past April. Mike hopes to get a job as soon as possible so he can start making money!
Chrissy worked in Environmental Services, Central Services and Nursing Division 3 and 6. She liked spending time with the Central Services staff that gave her a party with cake and treats when she concluded the internship. This summer Chrissy will go to the mall and swim at her new apartment complex. /
/ Mike T. spent time in Materials Management, Dietary Services and Environmental Services. He really liked working with Connie and the dietary staff. Mike is looking forward to playing basketball and hanging out with friends and family when he graduates from Project SEARCH.
