SOUTHBOROUGH CEMETERY

OPTIONS AND CHARGES FOR SMALL INFANT/BABY INTERMENT

Fees are fixed under section 214 and 215 of the Local Government Act and the Local Authorities’ Cemeteries Order 1977

OPTION ONE

This option offers burial in a public children’s grave within Southborough Cemetery. No memorial of any kind can be placed on the grave, although flowers can be laid after burial.

There are no charges for this option in all cases.

OPTION TWO

A private grave space equivalent to the size of a cremated remains plot can be purchased. There are a number of these smaller plots located in Southborough Cemetery. There are also a number of these plots reserved in Section 14, specifically for the burial of small infants and babies. This option allows the placement of a lawn-style memorial at the head of the grave. A Deed of Grant in respect of ownership will be issued.

There is no charge for the purchase of the plot in this option for residents of Southborough and High Brooms. However, there will be a charge for grave digging equivalent to the costs for grave digging of a cremated remains grave. Please refer to the separate Cemetery Charges document for a full scale of fees.

The purchase of the plot for this option if you are a non-resident of Southborough and High Brooms will be the standard rate for a cremated remains plot but doubled, as is the case for all non-resident adult burials at Southborough Cemetery. There will also be grave digging charges and administrative charges, also applied at double the standard rate.

OPTION THREE

A full adult burial private grave space may be purchased, at any chosen location. Memorials are permitted, although the type of memorial allowed will differ depending on the location. However, only cremated remains burials will be permitted in future with this option. Traditional sections can accommodate slightly larger memorials with kerb sets but the lawn section and cremated remains sections can only accommodate smaller and simpler headstone tablets. A Deed of Grant in respect of ownership will be issued.

The charges for this option are the same as for a standard adult burial, which means that all residents will get charged the standard rate and all non-residents will get charged double the standard rate. There will be a charge for purchase of the plot and grave digging for residents and non-residents but also an administrative charge for non-residents.
