Final 9 Week Speech List

Instructions: The total assignment is worth 100 points, and will count as your Nine Week Exam/Project Grade. Presentations will begin in-class on Friday, May 26th. There are noextensions or make-ups, unless you have a documented, excused absence and I am able to corroborate that with your parent/guardian. If you tell me you are not prepared or ask “Can I just present on Monday?” I will give you a zero. If you wish to excuse yourself from this assignment by turning in unused bathroom passes, you must turn in all nine—do not ask me “I only have seven left, can I get a pass anyway?” The answer is no. Additionally, if you already used up all 10 of your passes for other assignments, you may not…I repeat…may not have passes donated to you from someone else.

For this assignment, you willchoose one of the following options:

Option A)Choose an excerpt of at least 250 words from one of the speeches listed below.

Option B)Pretend you are a politician in the present day and that you are about to address the nation regarding a significant, historical event. Write and present an original speech of at least250 words that you would deliver to the nation in a televised address. Every five filler/connector words such as “and”, “the”, “in”, “is”, and the like will only count as one word.

Presentation: You will memorize and present the speech in class. You are allowed to write 75 “cue words” on one side of a single 3”x 5” notecard. The notecard will be turned in at the end of your speech.You may not write out your entire speech on the notecard and read directly from it.

Deadlines (10 points out of total 100 points grade): By 4:00pm on Friday, May 19th, you will select either Option A or Option B and send me an email with all of the following information:

  1. In the subject line, write: “Option A—Speech Name” or “Option B—Speech Name” or “Neither Option, I will use my Passes”. Here is an example:

  1. Attached to the email as a Microsoft Word Document,the excerpt you will present or your entire fully-typed original speech. I will use that document to follow along and grade during your presentation. Any changes you make must be provided to me on the day you present or there will be a deduction of points.

On Friday, May 12th, I will allow you to use the class period to work on this assignment. I will still be giving you a participation grade that day, so plan on using the entire 45 minutes productively.

Presentation Order: You will present your speeches in reverse of the order in which I receive your emails. So, the very last person who emails me will be the first to present on the 26th.
