STEPS TO USE TI-82/TI-83 FOR STATISTICAL USE

Steps to concurring your TI-82/TI-83 calculator for statistical usage. To Enter Data on your calculator simply follow the following steps. Each square with words inside represent a key onthe calculator. I will assist you with the idea that you have never used either of these calculators before.
To turn on the calculator

To get to the statistics menus

First you have to start with clear lists.
HIT the Down Arrow 4 times to get to 4:clrlstor clear lists

Now you have three lists clear. To clear only one list stop at L1 andto clear up to six lists useL1,L2,L3,L4,L5,L6
To choose edit mode, which you must be in order to enter data

Select1:EDIT by
HITTING
The shaded cell should be under the L1 list – if it isn’t use the left arrow to move over to that cell.
Key in your data – use as an example the following data values 11, 12, 13, 14, 15

If you make a mistake you can use the delete key

And then retype the correct value. If you notice a mistake at a cell up or down from where youare, then use the up or down arrow to move to the cell and delete the value and key in the correctvalue.

MANIPULATING THE DATA

Once the data is entered, you can then calculate many different statistics.
Now to get to the calculations of the statistics for this list L1, you have to go back to STAT mode

Choose calculations by hitting right arrow key once, so you move over to CALC
To find the statistics choose1 – var stats It should already darkened so

Now you must select the list to find the statistics on. If you want list 1, as we do here

You should see on the display the statistics

FINDING THE VARIANCE

To find the variance first determine which standard deviation and variance should be used – thepopulation standard deviation or the sample standard deviation. (If you need to re-calculate thestatistics, click here to follow the directions above.)
Key in the correct standard deviation and then square it to find the variance – So

The result on the display is the variance.
