(a)  Applications are to be submitted by the due date as advertised in the Associations Calendar of Events provided by PTC NSW each semester

(b)  Provide a revised and updated application to PTC NSW within five (5) working days of receipt of feedback from the PTC Professional Learning Committee

(c)  Provide a full list of participants no later than ten (10) working days after the event.

Applicants agree to adhere to these terms and conditions and understand that failure to comply with these conditions will result in an association incurring an administration fee. Associations not compliant will also be deemed ineligible to submit further applications for endorsement of courses until all necessary information has been provided to PTC NSW.

3.3.2 / The course will address Standard 3.3.2 by providing attendees with ICT strategies that will develop understanding and knowledge of geographic skills, such as latitude, longitude, scale, distance, area and grid references and contours that will be utilised in the classroom. Resources will be provided to assist teachers in using relevant teaching strategies
3.4.2 / A presentation on a range of ICT strategies including Geographical Information Systems (GIS) that will be will address Standard 3.4.2 by exposing teachers to a range of ICT resources that will develop their skills and apply to student learning.
5.1.2 / A presentation on setting a summative assessment task will address Standard 5.1.2 by providing strategies to effectively develop tasks to assess student learning.
6.2.2 / Presentation and workshop address Standard 6.2.2 by enabling teachers to update their knowledge and understanding of Information and Communication Technology, specifically Geographic Information Systems. This course will enable attendees to engage in formal and informal dialogue.
7.4.2 / Geography Teachers Association is a professional association that addresses Standard 7.4.2 by providing attendees with an opportunity to participate in a professional forum. The course will also enable teachers from regional NSW to develop collegial networks.

Description Section:
This course is designed to assist those teaching Geography for the first time or returning to Geography teaching. The focus will be on how to teach essential Geography skills and use ICT specifically Geographical Information Systems to engage students in the classroom. The course will also provide opportunity to engage in practical fieldwork techniques and to gather resources on setting formative assessment tasks.
The course focus will include:
1.  Fieldwork skills at the Macquarie River and GIS includes explanation of ICT skills including online Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and demonstrating practical fieldwork data collection techniques at the Macquarie River which will be incorporated into Google Earth GIS activities.
2.  Geography Skills Workshops incorporating Dubbo Stimulus material will use specifically developed stimulus material on Dubbo that will contextualise understanding geographic skills.
3.  Setting an exam will focus on strategies to develop a formative assessment task

Rationale for the course/programme:
Teachers who will be taking Geography classes for the first time and also teachers returning to Geography require professional learning opportunities in geographic skills and ICT Geographical Information Systems (GIS) in order to provide a range of valuable learning experiences for their students. This course aims to provide professional learning that will enable teachers to enhance the understanding of participants in key skills so they will engage students in a variety of learning opportunities. ICT skills and geographic skills are essential in engaging students in critical thinking about the world in which they live. Teachers will also be provided with learning opportunities in developing formative assessment tasks.

(1)  The time indicated below must be for the actual PD sessions only. Do not include registration/housekeeping sessions or any meal/rest breaks in this calculation.
