Dear Parents and Friends:

As you know, your child has been practicing excerpts from Georges Bizet’s Opera Carmen. This work is a massive undertaking. We are excited to have Jean Mauro, South’s Orchestra Director, conducting.

An opera such as Carmen is one that is most often tackled at the collegiate level. Because we have over 600 performers for this event, it was imperative we move to a large venue. The Great Auditorium is one of the largest performance spaces in New Jersey and the town offers much to tourists as it is a popular summer destination. It too has seen much destruction from Hurricane Sandy. We will be donating all profits from the concert to the community of Ocean Grove for hurricane relief.

All children will ride the bus to the theater. We will meet at Village at 11:45am on Saturday, May 18th and depart promptly at 12:00. Please make sure your child has had a healthy lunch before we leave and pack them a snack and water for the afternoon. As I indicated on the original form, the buses will not remain with us and all students will need a ride home after the performance (approximately 6:00pm). I will have a designated spot for you to pick up your child at the end of the concert. Please complete the ticket order form and return it by Thursday, May 9th. If there are other friends or family that you think may like to see this event, tickets will also be available at the box office prior to the concert. The Auditorium seats 5000 and we want to have a good showing.
