This role profile is non-contractual and provided for guidance. It will be updated and amended from time to time in accordance with the changing needs of the University and the requirements of the job.
PURPOSE OF ROLE:
This role is focused on supporting and recognising excellent practice in teaching, learning and assessment. The professional recognition of academic staff is a key strategic priority for the University of Greenwich, which is known for its high quality teaching. The postholder will work within the Educational Development Unit (EDU)where they will be a core member of the PG Certificate in Higher Education teaching team,including international delivery. As a member of the EDU, s/he will also advise and guide academic colleagues in curriculum development and contribute to related CPD activities includingteaching on the Post Graduate Research Students teaching and learning course.
The postholder will contribute to research and disseminating the scholarship and effective practice of teaching and learning internally through the University’s annual Learning, Teaching and Assessment conference, and journal of Learning and Teaching, and externally through publication. The postholder will work closely with University and Faculty leadership groups and Learning and Teaching & Assessment networks, locally and nationally.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:
Team Specific:
Teaching & learning support
  • Core member of PG Certificate in Higher Education teaching team which may include international delivery
  • Teach onthe post-graduate research student programme to develop teaching skills
  • Be a personal tutor to PG Cert in HE participants
  • Work with programme teams oncurriculum development
  • Maintain research and scholarly activity and contribute to other learning enhancement strategic initiatives that will include online flexible learning
  • Secure bids for external learning enhancement funded work
  • Contribute to an annual report on the Unit’s activities
Contribute to the ongoing work of the unit which includes contributing to the university’s annual learning and teaching conference (SHIFT), CPD provision, and facilitate dissemination activities throughdiscipline-related events, to develop, procure and create resources (online learning, guides and workbooks) to support academics in embedding effective practice in support of the university’s Learning Teaching and assessment strategy and Strategic Plan
Liaison and networking
  • Work collaboratively with members of the EDU with responsibility for related enhancement projects
  • Liaise with appropriate central support units, both technical and administrative, to ensure that initiatives are properly co-ordinated and delivered in line with the university’s infrastructure and policies
  • Work alongside the University’s Teaching networks, drawing on, and utilising their skills and expertise in taking forward learning enhancement initiatives
  • Identify emerging developments in the wider sector and be proactive in sharing these developments across the University
  • Represent the university in various regional, national and international forums related to learning innovation, and present university developments, research and evaluation where appropriate
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of new developments in learning innovation in the sector by engaging closely with, for example, the Higher Education Academy (HEA), SEDA and SRHE
  • Contribute to raising the reputation of the EDU and university at local, national and international levels.
Generic:The postholder will be a member of the Educational Development Unit and carry out roles and duties expected at AC3 level. S/he will engage primarily with developing enhancement of teaching and learning development through the PG Cert in HE and PGR. They will work in partnership with Faculties and Offices to promote innovation and excellence, developing approaches that maximise learning outcomes and enhance the student experience. This includes the production of teaching and curriculum development resources, analysis, research and evaluation, identifying new opportunities, and working with academic and academic-related networks employing a range of communications media. They will be expected to participate in curriculum design and development, quality assurance and quality enhancement, teaching, research and scholarship, engaging with local and sector–wide challenges and to apply their knowledge, experience and skills to new initiatives as they develop.
Research and scholarship
  • Undertake research intoHE initial teaching education and academic practice in higher education,
  • Work collaboratively with programme teams, members of the EDU, and others as appropriate, to identify possible sources of funding for research and evaluation and contribute to the process of securing these funds
  • Extend and apply knowledge acquired from research to learning innovation at the university providing support to Faculties and programme teams when needed.

Teaching on accredited/award-bearing programmes of study in HE(e.g. PGCHE, UG, PG)

Senior Fellow of the HEA. / Qualifications
