MISSION STATEMENT

Our goal is to provide a positive learning environment, which reinforces fitness principles, provides knowledge, and showcases a variety of activities. These activities span all five areas of the physical activity pyramid and can be enjoyed throughout one’s lifetime. I envision an atmosphere that allows EACH student an opportunity to develop socially and physically, appreciate competition that focuses on fair play and playing in the spirit of the game, encourage sportsmanship, and learn the value of a healthy and active lifestyle.

Grading Policy:

  • 1 point is earned each day you demonstrate proficiency in activity.
  • Failure to participate will earn a 0 for daily point.
  • 4 Tardies will result in a loss of 1 point.
  • If you leave class without approval, you will lose the point and receive an unexcused absence that CAN NOTbe made up.
  • Grading is straightforward. Attendance, participation and assessment will be included. The final grade is based on percentage points earned by students compared to the total number of points.
  • You must show improvement in your: specified athletic test.

A=90-100%B=80-89%C=70-79% D = 69-60 Below 60% =NP

MAKE-UP POLCIY and PROCEDURES:

  • Every Saturday at Lane5Crossfit there is a free class, that I help with and you will be able to do a PE make up at. Feel free to bring a friend or parents to participate.

Dress Policy/Procedures:

  • All students must enter/exit the gym through the center doors. DO NOT walk across the center of the gym floor. All doors automatically lock and unlock on a certain time. Please plan ahead.
  • You have 5 minutes to dress down and meet in the gym for attendance.
  • Locker rooms will be locked during class time. If a personal item is needed see me. Once locker room doors are closed they will NOT be reopened until class is dismissed. Plan ahead!
  • Please wear appropriate athletic attire. No low tank tops, torn or oversized baggy shorts, no flip-flops, Birkenstocks, Uggs, etc. and shoes MUST be tied.
  • You have 15-20 minutes to shower and redress and get to your next class. Which means we have about 45-50 minutes of actual class time. We need to be quick and use time wisely.

ILLNESSES/INJURY and MODIFIED ACTIVITIES/ ABSENTEEISM:

  • A parent or doctor note is required to be excused from the day’s activity (students WILL have to make up activity missed due to illness or injury). District policy requires a doctor’s note for alternative activities for extended periods of time.
  • Parents, please use written notes with discretion, as we all don’t feel well from time to time. Fitness research indicates that alight workout stimulates the immune system for quicker recovery. Student physically unable to participate will be given a written assignment to do in class.
  • District policy states that we report any injuries that may occur in class. Please, report to the instructor immediately any mishaps you may have. There is a formal document that is filled out and submitted. If medical care is needed, our school medical staff will be dispatched.

SAFETY CONCERNS/CONDITIONS THAT LIMIT PARTICIPATION

  • Students/parent(s)/guardian(s) need to inform the school nurse if the student has a medical condition that limits full participation. The school nurse gives the P.E. department a medical list at the beginning of every year so that we may update our files and keep your children safe and exercising appropriately.
  • Make sure to inform the instructor privately of any medical concerns.

State Standards

PE.HS.EE.01: We will develop competency in Aerobic/Cardio-Respiratory lifetime activates (such as Crossfit), Team sports (seasonal corresponding to varsity athletics), and Strength Training and Conditioning. We will perform more advanced skills in Strength Training and Conditioning learning complex multi joint Olympic lifts.

PE.HS.EE.02: We focus time and energy learning and critiquing activities pertaining to Weight Training. Skills and strategies, daily feedback, positive and negative aspects of personal performance, along with appropriate practice and conditioning procedures are implemented to deepen our knowledge of the targeted activity.

PE.HS.EE.03, PE.HS.EE.04 & PE.HS.SM.01: We begin the term with basic strategies progressing to complex rules and strategies in Strength and Conditioning, Individual Activities,Injury Prevention and Team sports including, but not limited to: Volleyball, Football, Basketball, Wrestling, Baseball, Track & Field. Through this process we learn appropriate and positive behavior management and respect for all individuals differences, including gender, ethnicity, and physical ability.

PE.HS.FL.01: There are often personal factors that impact participation in physical activates including injuries and time. We demonstrate that injuries don’t have to end physical activity, but rather alter the current activity to activities the injury permits.

PE.HS.FL.02: It is important to realize that one will not always be part of a team or train for an organized sport. It critical to realize that this opportunity is fleeting and over time their physical activity, preferences, and styles will change.

PE.HS.FL.04: In the case of a doctors note preventing physical activity and independent assignment designing a fitness program incorporating physical components and principles (overload, progression, specificity, and individuality) will be assigned.
