English 9 Literature Circles

Final Presentation

As a wrap-up to our Literature Circles focused around the topic of prejudice, your group will be making a presentation to the rest of the class. Everyone in the group must participate (i.e. speak) in the presentation in order to earn credit. Also, remember that your audience (classmates) have not all read the novel that you have, so keep this in mind as you present.

You may divide this project as needed so that each group member makes a contribution. Be sure to note on the rubric who is responsible for what, and turn in the written description of everyone’s role in the project (see below).

You can work on your project during any worktime in class; you should make your final plans with your group on Dec. 19 and again on Jan. 3; you will present your projects on Jan. 9.

Presentation Requirements:

  1. Introduction/Attention Grabber: You must get the class interested in your novel at the beginning of your presentation. You could pose a question to the class, read an important quote, or play a song related to the novel. Be creative! (5 points)
  2. Explain the setting of your novel (time and place). (5 points)
  3. State the point of view in which the novel is written (whose eyes are we looking through when we read it?). (5 points)
  4. Explain what your novel has to say about prejudice (one theme). Give at least three specific examples from your novel to support this theme. (5 points)
  5. Explain at least two other themes present in the novel and how they are incorporated into the plot. (5 points)

You must create the following visual aids:

  1. Plot diagram on posterboard, min. 12” x 17” (10 points)
  2. Character diagram on posterboard, min. 12” x 17” (10 points)
  3. Illustrations of three important scenes from the novel
  4. on un-lined paper, min. 8 ½” x 11”
  5. Each scene must be on a separate sheet of paper in color
  6. Each scene must include a quote from the novel at the bottom of the paper (be sure to include the page number)
  7. (5 points each – 15 points total)
  8. Your group must also turn in a typed, written self-evaluation of each group member’s role in preparing and giving the presentation (5 points)
