DIVISION STREET DANCE

STUDIO POLICIES 2017-2018

Dear Parents,

Thank you for enrolling your child in our dance classes! I will continue to keep you informed throughout the year with detailed handouts and information sent through email, sent home with dancers, posted at the studio, and on our website. Our policies are made for the students’ best interest and learning experience. With your registration, it is understood that all parents and students comply with the policies stated.

While we strive to place students to the best of our ability, no class is perfect. There are usually a few combinations that are too easy or too difficult. This is all perfectly normal, in fact we hope this occurs so there is an element of both comfort and challenge. We will evaluate your child throughout the first month of class, and if the class is not the best learning experience, we will recommend a different class. If you experience your child not wanting to come to dance class or having any problem with class, please make an appointment promptly to discuss with me.

Students will get the full benefit of class from being enrolled for the full nine months, so they get to experience learning technique, poise, coordination, and confidence from practicing, and then performing. Your child will feel proud of his or her accomplishment in learning the dances and make great friendships along the way.

Please take a moment to sign and return the bottom portion of this handout to the studio by October 1st. Thank you so much, and I look forward to working with you! -Emily

STUDIO POLICIES

*Tuition and registration fee are non-refundable or credited, sorry no exceptions.

*Enrollment is for the entire year (Sept. – May). A written drop notice signed by a parent must be received in order for enrollment to be dropped.

*If a class is closed or canceled, you will be notified approximately one week prior to the first day of class.

*Payment must be made for a student to be enrolled in class.

*I want to keep you informed. Please check your email, the lobby and your dancer’s bag every week for important notes and other information. I am happy to answer any questions you may have! I will also post all handouts in the studio and on our website: www.divisionstreetdance.com

TUITION

*Tuition paid on time is greatly appreciated! Tuition is due the 1st of every month. When writing a check, please note your child’s name in the memo section. Only overdue payments will receive a mailed statement. A $10 late fee is added to tuition that is paid after the 15th of the month, and $10 will continue to be added each month the balance is not paid. There will be no exceptions. Your child will not be allowed to participate in class if tuition is 30 days delinquent unless prior arrangements have been made with DSD.

*Tuition rates are for the full season (September to May, including studio holidays) and monthly tuition rates are divided into nine equal installments. Semester rates are divided into two installments (1st – 4 months, 2nd – 5 months).

*Tuition must be current for your dancer to receive their recital costume and to perform in the spring recital.

*Withdrawal from class must be made in writing, or tuition will still be due. The withdrawal must be received at least 30 days before effective. There is a two month minimum for all classes.

*NSF on checks will incur a $25 NSF fee which will be charged to your account.

*Refunds are only issued when Division Street Dance cancels a class.

*For full year or semester pre-paid tuition, you will receive a 50% credit voucher on any remaining amount that must be used within one year.

CLASS TRANSFER/CHANGE

Changing class is allowed within the first month of class, and must be done in consultation with Emily. Changes will not be allowed after this time

ATTENDANCE AND STUDENT ARRIVAL POLICY

*Regardless of your child’s age, please call or email DSD in advance if they are going to miss a class.

*Regular attendance is vital to students’ progress and group choreography. Please make every effort to attend each class.

* Students may make up missed classes until May 1st. If your child is making up class, they must tell the teacher they are there to make up.

* If your child misses more than two of the final 4 classes before the recital, he or she may be dismissed from participating in the recital routine at the discretion of the teacher.

*If your child is unable to dance, but would like to observe, please send a note to inform the teacher of the situation.

*If your child needs to leave class early, please come and get them out of class.

*Students may arrive up to 10 minutes early. No earlier, please. Please pick up your child promptly after class. We cannot be responsible for your child before or after class. Please make arrangements before class so your child knows who will pick them up and what to do if they are not there on time. We do not monitor who picks up your child. You will be notified if your child arrives too early or is not picked up promptly. Please have your child come dressed in their dance clothes and ready for class if possible.

PARENT OBSERVATION

Parent observation is the week before Winter Break (Dec. 18th – Dec. 23rd). These days we invite parents and family into the studio to watch class, and the students will perform what they have been working on.

There is a closed circuit camera linked to a TV in the lobby for parents to observe class throughout the rest of the year. We want you to be able to see what your child is working on, however they can be very easily distracted when they see you!

INCLEMENT WEATHER POLICY

If Northfield Schools are canceled due to inclement weather, Division Street Dance will also be closed. A message will be left on the studio website and Facebook page by 1:30pm regarding status of classes. Any canceled classes may be made up on your own time from our class schedule, but will not be counted against perfect attendance. There are no refunds given for cancelled classes, rather dancers are invited to make up their class time in another similar class.

COSTUMES AND RECITAL

All classes have one costume unless otherwise noted. Combination classes will only need one costume; all other students will need one costume for each subject they train in. Costumes include all tights and accessories (hats, gloves, etc.). Costume payments are due as follows: ½ Oct. 15th and 1/2 Nov. 15th. You can pay for the costume in full if you desire right away. Costume payments are not refundable after November 15th. Costumes will not be ordered unless payment is received in full. Additional fees will be charged for costumes ordered at a later date.

Costumes will be distributed when all outstanding balances for the season (including tuition and late fees) are paid in full. The dancers will be measured the first week of November. A parent’s signature is required for all costume orders. Because costumes are made to order, they are not refundable. Parents may have to sew straps, make alterations, or press costumes.

Thank you for enrolling your child in dance! Being able to express themselves through movement, learning how their bodies move, learning to be confident in moving, being able to move with creativity and purpose, and learning to share their talents with others are all part of the wonderful experience of dance. The memories of this year will last a lifetime for your child and you. Thank you for allowing us to be a part of your child’s memories and talent development. Each year we will try new ways to improve classes, concerts, and the learning environment. Thanks in advance for your patience and support! Please contact me if you have any questions or concerns or would like to know about your child’s progress.

Here’s looking forward to a great year!
