Simplex® 4010 – Earth Fault Search
This is another in a series of bulletins to highlight some helpful product features in the 4010 that you may not be aware exist.
4010 Earth Fault Search
Locating an earth ground fault can be tedious and time consuming, especially if you have to remove field and/or panel wiring to find it. The 4010 panel has a diagnostic function that can save you time and effort in isolating earth grounds.
What it does: The 4010 Earth Fault Search diagnostics allows you to locate an earth ground between the panel and the first IDNet isolator device, or between isolator devices.
Benefit: Service Supervisor Dale Wrightam (Little Rock/270) says that this feature “cuts my troubleshooting time in half on larger systems.” Tech Rep Derek Sauls (Indianapolis/331) reports that this feature “saves about 30 minutes” each time he’s searching for a ground. He adds “I love this feature in the 4100U, too.”
Additional info: It is important to note that the 4010 FACP does not function as a fire panel for the duration of an Earth Fault search. To access this feature, choose Diagnostics from the High Level Status screen. Then, press <NEXT> or <PREVIOUS> to scroll through the options until IDNet Earth Fault Search is displayed. Follow the on-screen instructions to turn the feature on or off. You may learn about this feature by attending Simplex 4005/4006/4008/4010 Service (TSPI_FA020) in the Simplex 4005/4006/4008/4010 Technician Curriculum. You may also learn more in the Diagnostics section of 4010 Front Panel Installing, Operating and Programming Instructions Manual (No. 574-052).
