PFE Community Service

Beneficiary

The beneficiary of the service project should be part of the community at large, the local community, PFE, school or a charitable organization.

Cost

The cost of the service project should be provided through charitable donations or organized fund raising efforts. Fundraising should not be the major thrust of the service activity.

Service that qualifies

The service should be through school or community such that it can be verified through the organization or its representatives. Students must NOT accept pay for their service work. Since this scholarship is provided by PFE (a school-affiliated organization), students are being asked to accumulate volunteer hoursspecifically in support of the PFE and/or school related groups, organizations or events, as follows:

Seniors: 10% of the 50 hours to PFE/School
(at least 5 hours during Senior year) / 9th–11th: 25% of the 50 hours to PFE/School (at least 12.5 hours over the 3 years)

Service that does NOT qualify

  • Paid or stipend service, religious instruction, babysitting for a religious function, conducting a religious service, or fundraising for a religious institution.
  • Travel time to and from a volunteer service event.
  • Service that serves only a family member.
  • Work that is part of earning a grade or sports ‘letter’. If it is mandatory for earning a letter or a grade, if it is part of a team membership, or a requirement of a club/sport, it does not qualify. Examples that do not qualify include: serving as team manager, helping with cheer camps, teaching elementary Spanish, earning a Scout badge.
