Purposeof the role:

The Mental Health Foundation is the UK’s charity for everyone’s mental health. With prevention at the heart of what we do, we aim to find and address the sources of mental health problems so that people and communities can thrive.

The Communications Intern will support the work of the Foundation’s communication’s team. Helping to promote our resources to the widest audience possible and raising our profile, online and off.

In return you will gain valuable experience of working across a broad range of communications and marketing disciplines, including PR and digital communications. Set within in a fast paced environment and on an issue that is rapidly rising up the public policy agenda.

Dutiesandresponsibilities

Overall

  • To attend and contribute ideas to team meetings and relevant campaigns and projects.

Digital communications

  • Drafting, editing and uploading content to the Foundation’s websites.
  • Helping manage social media output, including scheduling tweets, sourcing potential content and replying to comments on Facebook and Twitter.
  • Using analytics to map and analysedigital communications.

Marketing & publications

  • Proof-reading materials for publication.
  • Process and fulfill paid publications orders.
  • Mapping out key supporters and stakeholders for campaigns throughout the year.

Media/PR

  • Ensuring that the Foundation’s media contact lists are up to date and helping to build new press lists.
  • Supporting the Foundation’s celebrity engagement program, helping to identify potential future collaborators and building contact lists.
  • Supporting the Foundation’s case studies programme, including processing online forms, data entryand uploading stories to the main website.
  • Proof-reading press releases and blogs as and when appropriate.

Essential

Experience

  • This is an internship position, with the aim of providing valuable experience of working in the third sector. No previous experience is required but an interest in developing a communications career in the third sector, preferablymental health, is required.

Level of commitment

We would require a minimum commitment of 3 days per week (flexible) for a period of 3 months.

Volunteers will be reimbursed for reasonable travel expenses up to the cost of a travel ticket within the London Zones Area (Zones 1-6) and for lunch up to £5 per day – receipts must accompany the expense claims wherever possible.
