May 2014
A Note from your President:
I hope all you mothers and grandmothers (and GREAT grandmothers) will have a wonderful Mother’s Day. I personally hope my dog behaves. That’s all I can expect.
I have to begin this month’s letter on a sad note. Again we lost one of our religious community when Fr T. J. Maloney passed April 29, 2014. Services of remembrance were done here before Father went home to Ireland for his final resting. Please keep him in your thoughts.
We have been given the OK to sell Guernsey Ice Cream as a fundraiser at the Motor City Irish Fest. I have contacted Guernsey and they will rent us a freezer, scooper and include Promotional materials (in other words signage) free. PLEASE, PLEASE Ladies I will desperately need volunteers to man, or woman, the booth during the Festival. I will be there as much as I can but –and here’s some news—I have taken the Hall Rental manager position and we have bookings for that weekend, so I will have to split myself between the two.
At our last meeting we passed motions to donate funds. In Fr. McGrath’s name we will donate $150.00 to St Alexandria’s Food Pantry. A donation of $50.00 will be sent to the National Freedom for all Ireland. We also will be placing an $80.00 ad in the St. Pat’s Festival book.
State Historian Mary Underhill let us know that Michigan has sent 5 Writing Contest essays to the National competition. Among the entries is our own Colleen Gum’s daughter, Sarah’s entry. Good luck to all
Don’t forget that the Degree Team is selling raffle tickets for a lovely throw as a fundraiser. Also anyone wishing to take their Degrees or observe the Degree ceremony is invite.
Our division will have one more meeting then break for the summer. Don’t forget all the fun stuff that will be happening, our ice cream social, the AOH Picnic, National Convention, graduations, weddings etc. So let’s make the June meeting something special. We would love to see as many of our ladies shining faces and there is a potluck to boot!
