[i] Note dated 23 May 2013 from Rosemary Hoffman Buffat: Thomas and Mary Dick McIntire are my great, great, great grandparents. Thomas and Mary did not stay in Winchester, VA. They came to Harrison twp., Champaign co,. OH where they are buried in the cemetery of Wesley Chapel not far from Springhills, OH. A couple of years ago I visited their graves and took pictures. Information concerning this can be found in the book "the History of Champaign County, part 2" on page 782 which says "...About 1813, he(John McIntire, Thomas' brother) and his family of six children, with two other families, those of Thomas McIntire and Jacob Dick, came to this State in one wagon. The company consisted of eighteen or nineteen persons and their effects with them. They stopped in Pickaway Co., Ohio, where the family of Mr. Dick remained. (2) Adam (10 Feb 1802 - 20 Mar 1872) who married Hannah Bailey (30 Jul 1809 - 22 Jun 1887). He is buried in Boher I Cemetery, Morgan County.
(3) Peter (22 Jun 1803 - 18 Apr 1885) who married Elizabeth Shade (12 May 1803 - 30 Jul 1888). He is buried in Salem United Methodist Church cemetery in Morgan County.

Church cemetery in Morgan County.
According to Danna Koeling who has carefully researched this line, Lucinda and Mariah
were not married in 1850 when listed in their father’s will.

"The father (Samuel Waln) of our subject was one of nine children; was reared on his father's farm [in Frederick Co, Va], and on reaching man's estate was married to Margaret Dick [also of Frederick Co.].... Samuel Waln had learned the trade of a miller in early life, and after his marriage rented a farm which he conducted in connection with running a flouring-mill in Frederick County (afterward Morgan) for several years. He then rented a farm on the cape (sic), Cape Horn (Cacapon) River, in Morgan County, W.Va., and there followed his chosen calling until his death, which took place May 25, 1829. Of his union with Miss Dick six children were born, three sons and three daughters--Elijah Dick, William, Betty Ann, Juliett A., Joseph and Sarah J.
"(Elijah Waln) was fifteen years of age when his father died. In 1830, our subject's mother with her family removed to Pickaway County, Ohio, making the journey overland with a horse team. Two years later the mother married a farmer (Joseph Smith) in that county, and continued to reside there until her death, which occurred Sept. 12, 1868."
Margaret was the daughter of Peter Dick and grew up in the Shenandoah Valley of north central Virginia. (Some charts name her Margaret Elizabeth but I've not seen any documentation for that. ) Some charts list her as the daughter of Peyer & Nancy Garner but based on a Frederick Co, Va court case, she and husband Samuel Waln are listed among the 11 heirs of Mary Dick. They are listed as selling their 1/11th portion of land inherited from Peter Dick, her father.
After her marriage to Samuel Waln, she continued the domestic skills she had learned growing up: cooking, spinning, making clothing, etc. in addition to caring for 3 sons and 3 daughters. Her husband became quite successful as a farmer and miller and after their move to Morgan Co, he served as one of the first county magistrates until his early and unexpected death in 1829, leaving Margaret with a widow at age 40 with 6 children ages 1-15.
The following year, Margaret moved with her family to Pickaway County, Ohio where several of her Dick siblings were living. The probable route Margaret Dick Waln traveled with her 6 children was west along US 40 ( the old national road west to Ohio). The countryside is through the Allegheney mountains, which are soft rolling hills in this area, and thickly covered with deciduous trees. Though the counrtyside was beautiful, it would have been a difficult trek in a wagon with six children. The newly built National Road was primarily a dirt trail wide enough for horse or oxen-drawn wagons, in places a corduroy road (i.e. made of split logs laid at 95 degree angle across the road--a design meant to alleviate the mud holes and ruts from overland travel.) Crossing the Monagohela River near Wheeling, the land becomes more gentle: the hills less steep and the valleys much broader. Perhaps 40 miles or so east of Columbus, the land becomes comparitively flat allowing one to see great distances. Old National Road follows the ridge line through Scenery Hill just south of Washington, Pa where still stands a good sized 2 story stone tavern dating to 1797 and at least 2 log cabins along roadside. Spectacular view of valleys and hills on both sides of ridge for several miles.
Her oldest son, Elijah Dick Waln, helped care for the family for two years until Margaret married Joseph Smith in 1832. She continued to reside there until her death in 1868 though several of her children moved to Highland Co, OH where other friends and neighbors from VA had also moved. She is listed by name in the 1850 and 1860 census records for Pickaway Co, living 3 houses away from brother Jacob in 1850. Margaret is buried in New Holland, Pickaway Co, OH alongside her elder brother Jacob Dick and his wife. Margaret's younger brother, Nicholas Dick is also buried in the same cemetery. Her second husband, who was almost a decade older, appears to have outlived Margaret by several years. (Appreciation to Sara Stevens Patton and Michael Wilson for this information.)
