Comments/Explanations

Stewards accepted the explanations of Trainers Graeme McCulloch and John Blacker for the late notification of riders in Race 2 today.

Stewards were notified that Lucinda Doodt would not be attending today’s race meeting. Stewards will inquire into the reasons for this occurring.

RACE 1 –RICHARD CLARKE PAINTING MAIDEN–900 METRES

Hushama jumped away awkwardly and was slow into stride (1L).

On jumping Almost Art shifted out despite the efforts of the rider carrying Deschutes onto Static React which was contacted heavily on the flank and attempted to buck dislodging Kyle Maskiell. Kyle Maskiell was examined by the on course ambulance officers who reported that he was fit to continue riding. No action was taken on the manners of Static React due to the interference suffered.

Hushama raced three wide throughout.

Bush Mayhem hung out making the 600 metre turn and had to be steadied off the heels of Almost Art.

Bush Mayhem laid in passing the 200 metres brushing the running rail on several occasions before racing greenly thereafter.

RACE 2 – WILLIAM ST. MEATS MAIDEN - 1150 METRES

Following a report from the Starter that Ruby Saturday was extremely fractious in the barriers prior to the start, connections were advised that the mare must complete two consecutive satisfactory trials before racing again.

Dalehill was fractious in the barriers prior to the start, connections were advised that a warning has been placed on the mare’s barrier manners.

Pistol Jack proved difficult to load, connections were advised that a warning has been placed on the gelding’s barrier manners.

After being loaded into the barriers Can’t Decide became fractious and reared. Following a veterinary examination the mare was declared a late scratching at 2.13 pm. Prior to the announcement of correct weight, Stewards ordered all monies invested on Can’t Decide to be refunded in full. All bets made prior to 2.13 pm were to be paid less twenty five cents in the dollar on the face value of the win ticket and eighteen cents in the dollar on the value of the place ticket. A post-race veterinary examination revealed skin abrasions to the left hip. Trainer D Brazendale was advised that Can’t Decide must complete a satisfactory trial and a veterinary certificate must be submitted before the mare will be permitted to race again.

On jumping Geegees Muscle Man shifted in carrying Pistol Jack in onto King Vanikoa (NZ) which tightened and checked Impulsive Lager before King Vanikoa further shifted in tightening Lorita onto Ruby Saturday hampering these runners. In this incident Ruby Saturday was carried inwards bumping Hoffsetter. At the same time Questions shifted out resulting in Hoffsetter having to be checked off heels.

Geegees Muscle Man raced three wide.

Geegees Muscle Man laid in entering the home straight bumping with and tightening Shockwave Miss which was held up behind Pistol Jack.

Entering the home straight Questions shifted out to obtain a clear run from behind Geegees Muscle Man as Dalehill laid in resulting in these runners bumping.

Impulsive Lager was held up for a clear run from approaching the 100 metres until near the winning post.

On returning to scale Daniel Ganderton rider of King Vanikoa (NZ) reported that the gelding felt sore behind. A veterinary examination revealed no obvious abnormalities.

A post-race veterinary examination of Shockwave Miss revealed small cuts over the suspensory ligament and cannon on the off hind. Connections were advised that a veterinary certificate of soundness must be submitted prior to Shockwave Miss racing again. Hayley McCarthy requested to be attended by the ambulance officers after being accidentally struck in the face by the whip of Victor Wong rider of Geegees Muscle Man in the home straight. Apprentice Victor Wong was advised that when racing in restricted room in future he is not to use the whip.

RACE 3 – INDULGENCE CAFÉ CLASS 1 HANDICAP- 1350 METRES

Lanilew raced greenly shortly after the start.

Dehughes threw its head in the air on jumping.

Off The Grid had to be steadied off the heels of Marie Clare near the 900 metres.

Marie Clare (I Toker) shifted out near the 400 metres momentarily tightening Ready If You Are between it and Sea Ruler. Ismail Toker was reminded to exercise more care when in similar circumstances.

Off The Grid was briefly held up approaching the 200 metres behind Mel Loves Vodka.

Approaching the 50 metres Lanilew and Off The Grid bumped.

RACE 4 – BLAIR SAWMILL BM62 HANDICAP- 1350 METRES

Niloufar was slow to muster early speed.

Serengeti Miss was fractious in the barriers, connections were advised that a warning has been placed on the mare’s barrier manners.

Hollywood Gothic compounded quickly from the 400 metres. A post-race veterinary examination of Hollywood Gothic revealed no obvious abnormalities. Kyle Maskiell rider of the gelding could offer no explanation for the performance. Connections advised that the gelding will now be retired.

Don Reggio was held up momentarily behind the tiring Hollywood Gothic near the 400 metres.

Niloufar and Serengeti Miss were carried wider on the home turn when Don Reggio shifted away from the tiring Hollywood Gothic.

Sentinel laid in approaching the 200 metres.

Brendon McCoull rider of Viva La Verve reported that the mare over-raced in the early and middle stages and failed to finish off the race. Brendon McCoull further stated that in his opinion the mare may benefit with the removal of blinkers and being ridden further forward.

A post-race veterinary examination of Serengeti Miss revealed no obvious abnormalities.

RACE 5 – LENDING 4 U EASTER SPRINT- 1000 METRES

King’s Spirit jumped awkwardly.

Baldez had to be steadied passing the 800 metres when Cuprona Road (V Wong) shifted in when not quite clear. At the same time Concrete Johnny (S Carr) which was racing to the outside of Cuprona Road had also shifted in carrying Cuprona Road in marginally. Victor Wong and Sigrid Carr were notified to exercise more care when in similar circumstances.

RACE 6 – HARDINGS HOTMIX PTY LTD EASTER CUP–1880 METRES

Glenn Stevenson trainer of Sir Joey advised Stewards that it was connections intention not to push the gelding forward today but if circumstances permitted they hoped to settle mid field. Sir Joey was ridden slightly further back.

Stewards granted permission for Shiralee Maher to ride One Shot Off ½ kg over the allotted weight.

Stewards granted permission for Kyle Maskiell to ride Western Front 1 kg over the allotted weight.

Stewards granted permission for Hayley McCarthy to ride Sandeep 1 kg over the allotted weight.

Toakio Tower missed the start by approximately 3 lengths.

On jumping Dream Roller and Sandeep bumped.

Western Front shifted in shortly after the start bumping with Lingo.

Western Front over-raced in the early stages.

Musique Player (G Catania) was momentarily held up approaching the 300 metres. Georgie Catania was advised of the provisions of AR 137A(4)(c) relating to whip use when her mount is out of contention.

Following the race it was reported that Dream Roller had cast a near side hind shoe in running.

RACE 7 – A & T HORSE TRANSPORT CLASS 2 HANDICAP– 1000 METRES

Liberty Dance became fractious and reared prior to the start. Connections were advised that Liberty Dance must complete a satisfactory trial before racing again.

Rocklea Road hung out making the 600 metre turn.

Before All was caught wide throughout.

Approaching the 200 metres Doubtful Folly (G Challinger) shifted out and inconvenienced Golden Kiss and Liberty Dance. Grant Challinger was advised to exercise more care when in similar circumstances.

Approaching the 100 metres, when tiring, Liberty Dance shifted out carrying Nuclear Star wider on the track.

Innocent Hero laid in under pressure approaching the winning post.

Bulent Muhcu rider of Liberty Dance which performed below expectations explained that the filly laid out throughout and he felt there may have been something amiss. A post-race veterinary examination of Liberty Dance revealed no obvious abnormalities.
