BAMS SNOWSPORTS 2012-2013

ADVISORS: Ms. Sten (Rm. 101) and Mrs. Carra (Girls’ Locker Room)

FRIDAY TRIPS: January 4 (tentative), 11, 18,and February 1from 4:00 P.M. to 10:00 P.M. Trips may be postponed at the school district’s discretion due to poor weather/slope conditions. The first make-up date will be February 8.(See “Snowsports Fees”.)

TRANSPORTATION: Aseparate,non-refundable, fee paid to “BAMS Snowsports” will provide transportation to and from, or just to Tussey Mt. Students should board thebus immediately after schoolat the side of the building. Due to legal liability, students may not “catch a ride” home with someone else if they have paid for the return bus trip.Failure to follow this rule will result in loss of bus privileges. (See “Snowsports Fees”.)

PARENTS: Busses returnno later than 10:00 P.M. The bus will unload at the front of the middle school. Please keep in mind that the building is closedmost eveningsso there is no possibility of shelter on cold evenings.

SKI/BOARD STORAGE: Students may use their own equipment on trips. Equipment can be placed in the school after7:30 A.M. until 7:55A.M.on trip days. Skis and poles must be tied together. Equipment will be kept in the storage closet off the gym. Students with equipment shouldunload at theside of the building outside the gym. If you have questions about storage please see Ms. Sten or Mrs. Carra.

CLOTHING: Clothes can be changed at Tussey when you arrive. Dress in warm layers with snow pants that can go over boots. Gloves and hats are necessary and required when there is a frostbite warning. Extra socks may be needed. Long underwear can fit inside the boot. (For a proper fit pants cannot be put inside ski boots.)

TRIP DAY:

You will need: one parent-signed rental slip and one meal ticket, food money, or a packed supper. (Your parent needs to sign the rental slip BEFORE YOU COME TO SCHOOL THAT DAY.)

A $2.00 FEE WILL BE CHARGED BY TUSSEY IF RENTAL SLIPS ARE FORGOTTEN OR PASSES ARE NOT AROUND YOUR NECK.

Your passes will be handed out when you board the bus and collected on our return trip home. You will dress for skiingat Tussey!Storage lockers are available in the locker room for $1.50 in coins.

MEALS: 4 meal tickets can be purchased for $22.00. Options: a) 2 slices pizza or quesadilla drink (milk or soda), b) 1 slice pizza, fries drink, c) hamburger or cheeseburger, fries drink.

TIME LINE:

3:15 Leaveafter your last class, go to your locker and get your books for the weekend. Pick up equipment if necessary. Report to the bus.

4:00 Arrive at Tussey: get tickets, get dressed, get rental equipment.

LESSONS – All students must take a lesson or possibly be suspended from further trips.Season pass holders are required to take 2 lessons.

5:00 – 9:15OPEN TIME - BUDDY SYSTEM! Stay with your lesson group or at least one other person. Take breaks with at least one other person. Inform one of the advisors if you are ill, injured, or find yourself without a skiing buddy.

9:15 Quit your activities no later than this time and return equipment.

9:15 – 9:25 Report to the bus.

9:30 Bus leaves for BAMS.

9:45 - 10:00 PARENT PICK UP TIME IN FRONT OF BAMS.

Failure to follow the timeline can result in being suspended from later trips!

ELIGIBILITY STATEMENT:

*Students must be academically eligible throughout January and February in order to attend the ski trips*

A student is ineligible to participate if any of the following categories apply:

-He/She has failed two or more courses (high/middle school)

-He/She is not passing a minimum of five (5) credits

-He/She doesn’t have a minimum average grade of 73% (high school, 70% (middle school)

-He/She is not eligible to be promoted to the next grade.

The student will be required to forfeit her/his participation for 7 days. The weekly ineligibility begins on the Monday of each week. The ineligible student can practice with his/her team. In addition, if the student has failed to meet the requirements mentioned above, at the end of the week, one additional week will be added to the subsequent penalty until all requirements have been met.
