JOB DESCRIPTION

Job Title:CLEANER

Pay Band:£7.22 per hour which is pro rata of Kent Range 2 (£13,937 – £14,951)

Working Hours:Monday to Thursday3.45pm – 6.45pm, Friday 2.45pm to 6.45pm for 38 weeks per year

Job Purpose:To provide a safe, clean and welcoming environment for students, staff, visitors and the general public

Responsible to:Facilities Manager

Generic responsibilities:

  • To provide a comprehensive cleaning service to include dusting, vacuuming, washing floors, emptying bins etc. to ensure high standards of cleanliness and hygiene at all times
  • To take responsibility for health and safety matters involving the school premises and site, reporting any defects to a senior member of staff to ensure health and safety procedures are followed and to enable repairs to be carried out
  • To carry out all duties in accordance with KCC Health & Safety guidelines and with the specific risk assessments relating to the activities

Specific accountabilities:

1.To carry out daily cleaning in the school buildings within areas designated by the Facilities Manager

2.To carry out regular washing-down of walls and radiators within areas designated by the Facilities Manager

3.To carry out regular internal window cleaning as directed

4.To carry out machine shampooing or hot-water cleaning of carpets as directed

5.To carry out floor stripping and polishing as directed

6.To regularly clear and sort cleaning lockers, ensuring at all times the safe storage of cleaning supplies and cloths

7.To carry out regular checks on electrical cleaning equipment i.e. hoovers, polishing machines,and take the appropriate action to ensure their continued safe use

PERSON SPECIFICATION

-Willingness and ability to work as part of a team

-Understanding and ability to apply Health & Safety procedures relevant to the job, e.g. manual handling, safe use of machinery and/or equipment, COSHH, First Aid and Hygiene Practice (training can be provided)

-Ability to follow instructions and work within set routines

-Ability to recognise problems and report to supervisor

-Ability to communicate factual information politely and courteously

-Basic written and numeric skills appropriate to the job

-Good attendance and timekeeping record
