Dear supporters and readers,
Greetings from Disabled Peoples’ International Asia Pacific (DPI/AP). This is an email update featuring developments in the field of disability, developments relating to social justice and news from around the world.
Message from the Editor,
Javed Abidi the world chair of DPI has two interesting statements. One is about “Information is Power: But are we hearing what the grassroots have to say?”, posted in April 2012 and the other is “Is ‘Nothing About Us, Without Us,’ just a jargon today?”, posted in May 2012. You can find it at DPI/AP website, please follow link. Besides DPI/AP had some events at their office which I like to share with you. There was the workshop on Peer counselor skill and Independent Living skill for the Independent Living of Deaf Persons from 5 - 7 May 2012, please follow link. Furthermore there was the mission to Nepal and DRPI National Disability Rights Monitoring Training in Kathmandu, Nepal 18 - 24 April 2012, please follow link. I like to share DPI/AP report of the Regional Conference on raising awareness of the ASEAN Disability Forum (ADF): A platform of engagement for DPOs and multi-stakeholders to promote and implement the ASEAN Decade of Persons with Disabilities, please follow link. Although seven Australian Volunteers visited DPI/AP office on 30th April 2012 and experienced Disability Equality Training, please follow link.
At least I like to share the annual report from the ILO (International Labour Organization) “World of Work Report 2012: Better Jobs for a Better Economy”, consider major negative impacts of the global economic & jobs crisis on women, women’s work, women’s poverty. 4. Campaign to increase PWD’s electoral participation set
Anticipating the forthcoming 2013 Philippine midterm elections, a group of organizations working with persons with disabilities (PWDs) is launching a nationwide campaign that aims to increase the participation of PWDs in the elections and other democratic processes. Please follow link.

1. SEAHRN Conference 2012
I’d like to inform you that they have now a blog where you can find all information about this second international conference on Human Rights and Peace & Conflict in Southeast Asia. 2. Call for Nominations for the 2012 Human Rights Defenders Tulip
