CONSTITUTION AND BYLAWS OF AN ASB CLUB
CONSTITUTION OF THE CHS CHAPTER NATIONAL HONOR SOCIETY OF CURTIS SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL
Preamble
We, the students, for the promotion of good government, good sportsmanship, student activities, and the general welfare of the students of Curtis Senior High School, establish this Constitution of the CHS Chapter of the National Honor Society.
Article 1. Name of Organization
Section A. It is resolved that the name of this organization shall be the CHS Chapter of the National Honor Society of Curtis Senior High School.
Article 2. Purpose
The purposes of this organization shall be to:

- To create contributing citizens committed to excellence.
- To achieve excellence in service, scholarship, character, leadership, and knowledge.
Article 3. Membership
Section A. Membership in CHS National Honor Society is established by the student earning a 3.5 cumulative grade point average.
Section B. Membership in CHS National Honor Society is maintained by:
- Maintaining a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or higher
- Paying a yearly club fee of $10.00 (District/Building Mandate)
- Volunteering with CHS NHS events for a minimum of 10 hours/year.
- Volunteering outside of CHS NHS for a minimum of 20 hours/year.
Section C. Probation and Dismissal:
- Scholarship- After induction, if a student’s grade point average falls below 3.5 during any grading period, the student will have one semester of probation. The student will be dropped from NHS if the cumulative grade point average is not 3.5 or higher during the next grading period.
- Service- Students will be dismissed from NHS for not satisfying the Community Service requirement. (Please see Section B for more information).
- In addition, if a member is unable to attend an event that he/she committed to, he/she must submit notice to an advisor or to an officer no later than 48 hours prior to the event. If 48 hour notice is not provided, members will receive a probationary notice. A second offense will result in dismissal from NHS.
- Members who commit to an event and, without notice, do not attend will receive a deduction of hours equal to that event’s hours from the yearly service hour requirement and they will receive a probationary notice. Thus, students will be required to make up those hours in addition to the yearly requirement of 30 service hours. A second offense will result in dismissal from NHS.
Article 4. Duties
Section A. Duties of CHS National Honor Society
- To create contributing citizens committed to excellence.
- To achieve academic and philanthropic excellence.
- To support the CHS and Pierce County community.
- To raise funds for non-profit organizations and/or those in need.
Article 5. Eligibility
Section A. Eligibility of CHS National Honor Society
All club members must have and maintain a minimum cumulative 3.5 grade point average.
Section B. Requirements for all CHS National Honor Society
Members during their period of service shall be required to:
- Pay yearly club fee of $10.00 (District/Building Mandate)
- Volunteer with CHS NHS events for a minimum of 10 hours/year.
- Volunteer outside of CHS NHS for a minimum of 20 hours/year
Article 6. Amendments
Section A. This constitution shall be amended by a two-thirds majority vote of the membership provided of the CHS National Honor Society.
