The National Federation of Young Farmers’ Clubs (England & Wales) [NFYFC] is one of the largest rural youth organisations in the UK. The organisation provides opportunities for personal development of its members through training programmes, competitions, skills certificates and overseas travel. This is a democratic membership organisation of over 23,000 members in more than 650 Young Farmers’ Clubs in England & Wales which are grouped in 50 County Federations. The National Federation of Young Farmers’ Clubs supports the Clubs and County Federations achieve the charity objectives through a range of programmes and training underpinned by youth work principles.

NFYFC organises an extensive programme of competitions designed to offer opportunities for participation, learning, fun and personal development to YFC members aged 10 to 26 years. The competitions programme consists of approx. 35 YFC competitions with finals being held at a number of YFC events and at several national events. These include the NFYFC Annual Convention, Royal County of Berkshire Show, The Malvern Autumn Show and NFYFCs own Competitions events.

The NFYFC is seeking an experienced and dynamic individual who can drive the marketing and fundraising forward for National office and County offices, and develop a communications strategy in line with the strategic review, which is currently in process. This is a very exciting time to join NFYFC, with a new Marketing structure and an opportunity to recruit a team to work with you. You will be an integral part of the Senior Management Team and will report directly to the Chief Executive Officer.

You will have excellent management, organizational, marketing and communication skills, as well as in-depth knowledge of fundraising. In addition, but not essential, you will have experience of working with volunteers/supporters and have effective committee work skills. You will be a great communicator at all levels and the successful candidate will show enthusiasm and a ‘can do’ approach to their work.

The post is full-time and is based at the NFYFC HQ, Warwickshire, although travel throughout England and Wales will be required.

As a youth organisation the NFYFC is committed to the safeguarding of young people and will undertake a CRB Check at enhanced level on the successful applicant.

Job Description

Job Title:Head of Marketing, Fundraising and Communications

Purpose of the post:Working with the NFYFC staff team to develop and manage Marketing, Fundraising and Communications personnel, develop a communications strategy and support the on-going strategic planning for the organisation.

Responsible to:Chief Executive Officer

Hours of work:Normal office hours are 35 hrs/wk, although some work will be required in what are normally described as leisure hours. The Federation operates a time off in lieu policy.

Place of work:YFC Centre, Stoneleigh Park and/or any other place of business of the Federation as the Federation requires

Introduction

To effectively and efficiently develop a Marketing department that is able to deliver the outcomes of the strategic plan (which is in development) – a very exciting time to become part of the Senior Management Team and develop the organisation’s fundraising initiatives.

This key organisational role will see you developing, leading and implementing new inspiring communications and fundraising strategies. You will be a team player, with a hands-on approach.

Responsibilities of the role
  1. To create, develop and implement the delivery of NFYFC’s integrated marketing,fundraising and communications strategies, to meet the needs of the overall new strategic vision and corporate business plan.
  1. Develop and manage the NFYFC marketing initiatives to support the building of a new and inspiring Young Farmers Club brand.
  1. Produce an eighteen-month work plan for all activities, reporting to the Chief Executive on day to day activity and to the Board on KPI’s.
  1. Develop an on-going market research programme to ensure that NFYFC’s communications are meeting the needs of its clubs and members. This work will inform NFYFC’s activity and offer a great understanding of membership needs, external prospects, PR coverage and fundraising opportunities.
  1. Raise funds for the organisation
  1. Develop an impact measurement plan and communicate to the stakeholders along with analysis mapping
  1. Managing and working with the Fundraising Officer to develop and implement a high value fundraising programme (focusing on institutions, trusts and major donors) and corporate opportunities.
  1. Work closely with the CEO and other senior NFYFC staff to ensure that their programmes are integrated into the overall marketing, fundraising and communications strategy.
  1. Introduce key marketing policies and processes in order to optimise local membership engagement with NFYFC.
  1. Formulate and plan the department’s annual budget within the context of the NFYFC’s overall budget.
  1. Be a key high level advocate and spokesperson for NFYFC.
  1. Develop the website and digital communications to the membership of NFYFC.
  1. Develop best practice, methods and policies for social networking sites suitable for a rural youth organisation in association with the Digital Communications Officer.
  1. Support the Communications Officer in the development of a coherent and comprehensive media strategy that will support the NFYFC strategy objectives and ensures media opportunities are optimised.
  1. Work with Areas and Counties within NFYFC to develop key messages to support other spokespeople/ambassadors.
  1. To liaise with other members of staff regarding the Fundraising and Marketing of events and to be aware of the sponsorship, support and publicity requirements for the event.
  1. To assist the CEO in ensuring the federation’s work is properly administered, documented and that associated papers are circulated in a timely manner and to work with the Council’s appointed Steering Committee and other Volunteers/members of NFYFC as and when directed by the CEO
  1. To undertake any other duties commensurate with the level of this post as requested by the Chief Executive.

As a youth organisation committed to the wellbeing of young people all personnel must undertake an enhanced level CRB Disclosure. This post cannot be confirmed until the outcomes of this check have been reviewed. The NFYFC will comply with new legislation as introduced by Government.

Pension

The NFYFC offers a pension scheme to all employees after satisfactory completion of the probation period. Details will be given to the successful candidate.

Annual leave

Thirty one days annual leave per annum (including public holidays) rising by 1 day (or part thereof for part-time posts) for each completed year of service, to a maximum of 36 days after 5 years service.

Probationary period

The probation period for this post is 6 months. The NFYFC reserves the right to extend this period.

Transport

Public transport links to Stoneleigh Park is limited; therefore access to a vehicle is essential. The successful applicant should be prepared to use their own vehicle in connection with their work for which a mileage allowance can be claimed.
