AP Studio Art (2D & Drawing) 2017-2018

Mrs. Rakov ~ Room 260

AP Class requirements:

AP students in the studio arts course are self-motivated and willing and able to work numerous hours outside of the classroom. Students should have completed Portfolio class or be concurrently enrolled.

Students will create:

  • Many sketches to develop ideas (sketchbook required)
  • 24 final works of high quality innovative art
  • Works with “student voice”
  • 12 of the 24 works will be from teacher guided assignments “BREADTH”
  • 12 of the 24 works will be a student selected exploration of one topic showing growth in the idea, technique or approach “CONCENTRATION”

Technology:

  • Students must have a Schoology account; this must be checked often for assignments
  • Students should have access to Pinterest to explore artists and other AP students
  • Students should have access to the Internet to view AP requirements

Art Supplies:

Some basic supplies may be provided in class but students may need to purchase additional supplies depending on the scope of the work they are creating. A sketchbook is required by week #2.

Class time:

Class time will be spent working on art projects. No outside work will be completed in class. Students must clean up in a timely fashion and may not leave projects or messes behind. Students will NOT use class time to run errands or visit other teachers or make up other assignments in other classes. Students will not leave class early. THIS IS AN AP CLASS.

Storage of work:

An unsecure area in the back storage room will be provided for storing works. Students must bring in a labeled Portfolio to class to store work. This may be fancy or simple, such as 2 pieces of poster-board taped together. ANY WORK FOUND STORED IN THE CLASSROOM WILL BE DISCARDED! Every year work is lost by being “hidden” in the classroom. The classroom has 7 classes and no storage area for AP work. Please be mindful and responsible and maintain your work at all times. Parents will be contacted if students are not responsible for maintaining the studio space or their work, or work areas.

Social Media:

DO NOT post your AP work on Social Media! It will be stolen, copied or otherwise used by other people. This will result in a possible non-pass grade by the AP evaluators. Don’t do it!

Deadlines:

Visual artists work at different paces. Students are expected to meet class deadlines. Grades will be entered as work is completed. Deadlines will be posted on Schoology and on the CHS website. Occasional emails to parents will be sent to remind families of important deadlines.

Grades:

Grades are given using the AP criteria: 6, 5,4, 3, 2 or 1. We will discuss these designations the 1st 9 weeks. Grades may be seen as a zero in HAC if students have not met deadlines. These will be updated as work is submitted. Late work will lose points.

Absences:

Communicate with Mrs. Rakov if you are going to be absent. Work may have to be made up outside of class.
