Scholarship Information

Scholarship Description

The Progressive Scholar in MIS is an academic scholarship awarded annually a student enrolled in the Management Information Systems (MIS) major at Ohio University’s College of Business. Funding of the scholarships is provided by Progressive Insurance to support academic excellence and engaged involvement on the part of students in the MIS program.

Annually, one $2,000 scholarship is awarded to a student who demonstrates excellent academic performance and substantial involvement in MIS-related student organizations and/or the MIS department. Scholarships are awarded for the academic year 2013-14 and announced in the Spring of 2013.

Eligibility

Eligible candidates must fulfill the following requirements to apply:

·  Student must be registered as an MIS major

·  Senior class standing during the academic year the scholarship is awarded

·  Cumulative GPA of 3.2 or above

·  MIS GPA of 3.5 or above

·  Leadership in the MIS major through student organizations and/or the MIS department

Application Process

Candidates wishing to apply for the Progressive Scholar in MIS scholarship must:

·  Complete the attached application form.

·  Write a short (no more than 500 words) essay describing your involvement in and contributions to the MIS major.

·  Submit your application electronically to Connie Knowlton by 12:00 pm Friday, March 29, 2013. Applications will not be accepted after this time.

Applications will be reviewed by MIS faculty and scholarship recipients selected in the beginning of April 2013.

Essay

Please write a short essay (500 words or less) that describes your involvement in the MIS major. Particularly, discuss your role(s), any leadership you have demonstrated, and the specific contributions you have made to the department. Also, please make mention of faculty with whom you’ve worked during your involvement.

You may write your essay in this document below and submit it as a single Word document attachment. Use the following naming convention to name your application file (Yourname_Progressive_Scholarship_Application.docx).

You must also submit your resume as an additional attachment for consideration.
