Flag Football - OVERTIME Rules

  1. Throughout the playoffs, if the game is tied after regulation, a coin toss will be used to determine who is on offense/defense.
  1. Each team will get 4 downs starting from the 20 yard line.
  1. Upon a score, the team can try for 1 or 2 points on the point after try.
  1. Once a team has scored and attempted the point after try, it will be the opposing team’s ball at the 20 (regardless of how many plays it took you to score).
  1. If the opposing team ties the score after their 4 downs and point after try, the same format will be used for the second overtime.
  1. Beginning with the 3rd overtime period, all scores must be followed by a 2 point try on the point after attempt.
  1. Kickoffs- Kicks may be returned from the endzone, do not blow the play dead unless they down the ball.
  1. Pass Interference- On all P.I. calls, enforcement shall be 10 yards from the original Line of Scrimmage and an automatic 1st down. If inside the 10 yard line, half the distance to the goal line & 1st down. (Don’t mark it at the spot of the infraction…this is NOT the NFL)
  1. Diving- Ball carriers may dive for the 1st down line, endzone, etc. The key is that they don’ dive through somebody or over somebody. If they dive around a player to get an extra yard, it is fine, but as long as they don’t initiate contact.
  1. Spotting the Ball- Always spot the ball at its furthest point when the player is de-flagged. If a player is smart, he/she will hold the ball out to get that extra yardage.

  1. Contact on the Line- This is huge!!! Make sure to watch the line play closely! No hands to the face, NO holding, NO cut blocking. If a player gets frustrated and/or physical…flag & warn them…if the play continues rough, eject the player. Enough said…I will take care of all the ejected participants!
  1. Shadow Blocking- There will be no hitting on any kicking situations or once the ball has passed the line of scrimmage on a play from scrimmage (downfield blocking is a penalty).
  1. The kicking team can never recover the ball (regardless how far kicked) because play is over when the ball hits the ground.
  1. Defense can get down in a 3 or 4 point stance.
  1. After a safety, the ball in PUNTED from the 15 yd line (same as kickoffs).
  1. Teams must snap the ball on punts; if they botch it, the ball is dead at the spot, resulting in change of possession.
  1. Interceptions can be returned for 2 points on extra point conversions (regardless if the team was going for 1 or 2 points).
  1. Mercy Rule: 2 minutes of less left in the game (17 pts for Men’s/Women’s, 23 pts for Co Rec)
  1. Cancellation of games; probably not going to happen; if so, it will be a game time decision, so show up!!
  1. Kickoffs out of bounds: 5 yd penalty (spot the call at the 20…..line +5) or re-kick 5 yards back.
  1. There are no onside kicks (regardless of how far the ball is kicked).
  1. Waiver must be signed by all participants in order to play (No Waiver, No Play)
