Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ’s)

Thank you for your interest in becoming part of the WDNA Umpiring Academy.

Why apply?

Are you committed to developing your umpiring? Is umpiring a skill that you would like to further explore and see how far you can run with it? If yes then this is the program for you. We are looking for umpires that want the privilege of accessing the resources that we have to hand.

What can I expect?

By becoming part of the Academy you will develop your umpiring both on and off the court, have access to experienced and high level umpire coaches, have free access to internal workshops, be able to umpire a game that is suited to your development, have a performance review partway through the season and have the opportunity to develop your umpiring through the National Umpiring Development Framework. Each successful applicant will also be expected to give back to the Association in the form of 15hours throughout the Winter Season, this can take many forms and is open to discussion, BUT the period of time is non-negotiable.

I’m not good enough to become part of the Academy.

If you hold a National Badge and have the drive and commitment then there is no such thing as ‘not good enough’. We have 4 levels of development with the Academy and we are positive that we will be able to help you gain the experience, confidence and ability to move forward in your umpiring journey. If you don’t hold a National Badge but would like to develop your umpiring, please apply to the Green Shirt Program, applications close 30th January 2016.

Sounds great but I’m a club person and I don’t want to leave them with no umpires!

The Umpiring Academy will only allocate you one game a week if you are an active umpire within your club. BUT you must commit to only umpiring a MAXIMUM of two games each Saturday (and yes Net Set Net is considered a game!) This will allow you to take full advantage of the umpire coaching and ensure that you are able to umpire the whole game! (and not just the first half because you got tired!)

Is there a cost involved?

As with all development there is an initial cost. For 2016 this will remain at $100. This covers everything stated above plus a brand new umpiring shirt for you to keep should you be a new member in 2016.

How do I apply?

Complete the form and send it through to or post to WDNA, PO Box 116 KINGSWAY WA 6065, prior to Friday 26thFebruary 2016. Successful applicants will be notified week commencing 8th March 2016.
