President’s Report: Donna Colombo
· Books for Babies Program: The program is a partnership between LCPS and the hospital allowing a connection to facilitate early literacy from the very beginning. A packet including children’s books and information regarding the importance of reading is provided to each new mother before leaving the hospital. The packets are assembled by volunteers.
· Sanders Corner has been involved in the “Books for Babies” reception for the past two years. Last year, six fourth graders attended. This year, the same fifth graders (and one additional student who filled in a spot for a student who moved away) attended again. The students practice a book and then read it to the audience. Newton Lee also participates in the same manner.

LEAP: Kirsten Bushman
· At the latest LEAP meeting, the topic dealt with bullies and positive behavior interventions. The idea is to set up support teams in schools to prevent negative behaviors before they start. Local middle schools have programs with “safe school ambassadors”. These students are taught how to diffuse bullies. The Loudoun sheriff’s department has a limited amount of internet safety / anti-bullying software for computers. The software may be picked up at a safety center or the sheriff’s department.
· The next LEAP meeting will be held on December 14. The topic will be, “Making the Grade”. .

· Lisa McGrail will provide a Q&A section in the “Dolphin Dispatch” regarding signing in and out for volunteering.
· Lisa McGrail and Ann Hawkins are requesting stories, photos, info to be aired on the SCNews. Examples are extracurricular activities outside of school – sports, scouts, clubs, etc.
Yearbook: Sue Fuller and Tyra Behrens
· Friday, November 11, was the last day to turn in artwork. If any entries were turned in after that day, they are considered late and will lot be included in the contest.
· Ann Hawkins, Chrissy Gier, and Donna Colombo all volunteered to judge the artwork. After Thanksgiving, the winners will be announced on the SCnews.
· Sue Fuller and Tyra Behrens met with Lifetouch to discuss the yearbooks and software.
· Custom yearbook covers add two dollars to every yearbook. To reduce the cost of the yearbook next year, it might be worth considering not having a custom cover but rather an interior page in the yearbook to highlight student artwork.
· Pre-sale in January, final sale in spring. The cost will be 15-17 dollars per book. The earlier the yearbooks are purchased, the lower the price. After the pre-sale, the cost will increase.
Spooktacular Bingo: Jen Cramer
· The event went well.
· The high school volunteers were a big help. If working with high school volunteers, assigning duties before hand would be helpful for the kids to know.

· Thanks for all of the staff who helped out during Bingo!

· Cobb theaters provided lots and lots of popcorn. Other snacks were purchased from Costco.
· Chrissy would like to have two more movie nights and coordinate new dvd releases for those nights.

· The fall book fair went very well.
· The spring book fair is scheduled for March 19-23.
· Robin is looking for someone to shadow her during the spring book fair event to take over for the 2012-2013 school year. Robin’s son will be moving on to middle school next year.

· The magnets would be sold SCES events.
Volunteer coordinator: Kim Paulson

· Teachers are able to sign up through Volunteerspot as well.
