East Carolina University – Online Graduate Certificate in Security Studies
East Carolina University is offering an online Graduate Certificate in Security Studies. The program is designed to develop the knowledge, skills, and abilities expected of students pursuing a career related to homeland security at the national, state, and local levels. To accomplish this goal the Interdisciplinary Graduate Certificate program gathers knowledge and talent from these departments: political science, public administration, criminal justice, planning, environmental health and safety, and other associated departments and programs throughout the university.
The Graduate Certificate in Security Studies requires 15 semester hours of graduate credit.

All core courses approved for the Graduate Certificate will be made available through distance learning. Course availability may not be as consistent as those offered in residence but every effort will be made to those students who wish to complete the Graduate Certificate away from the campus will be afforded that option. Students should check the University’s Continuing Studies Course listing each semester to determine which Graduate Certificate courses will be offered via distance learning.
Students currently enrolled in the Masters of Business Administration (MBA), Masters in Public Administration (MPA), Master of Arts in International Studies (MAIS), and Master of Science in Criminal Justice at ECU can also pursue the Graduate Certificate option within these programs of study. MAIS students can take the 5-course Graduate Certificate option, plus one additional course, in lieu of writing their Masters Thesis. MPA students can pursue a concentration in Security Studies by taking the Graduate Certificate option.
