Job Description

Job title:Young Carers’Social Action Coordinator

Accountable to: Young Carers’Project Manager

Job purpose: Design and deliver a programme of social action projects led by young carers, with the aim of making North Tyneside a happier place for them.

Responsible for:

  • Facilitating a programme of child led social action groups for young carers aged 10 – 20.
  • Developing personal facilitation skills in the Child to Child Hearing All Voices programme and facilitating the programme with young carers.
  • Enabling young carers to explore issues that impact their lives and design projects that can make a difference. Forging links with North Tyneside schools and establishing those that would like the programme to be delivered in their setting.

Key Tasks

  1. Service Delivery:
  2. To coordinate a programme of social action groups where young carers decide on a priority issue of concern that they can tackle to contribute towards making North Tyneside a happier place for them to live.
  3. To participate in training in the Child to Child Hearing All Voices model and deliver the programme to groups of young carers aged 10 – 20 across the borough of North Tyneside.
  4. To recruit young carers to participate in the social action groups in line with targets agreed.
  5. To ensure that the programme of activities is child led and focused on the views and ideas of young carers.
  6. To foster an environment where children’s views are central to the work and their rights are upheld.
  7. To identify schools that can host the project in their settings and encourage schools to identify young carers that would benefit from engagement in the project.
  8. To respond to referrals to the project, liaising with families and young carers at the initial point of referral, explaining the project, overcoming barriers to engagement and enabling young carers’ participation in the project.
  9. To deliver training sessions in the Hearing All Voices model of participation for young adult carers (16-20).
  10. To support young adult carers to put newly developed skills into practice and co-facilitate social action groups alongside the Social Action Coordinator.
  11. To organise and coordinate an annual celebratory sharing of achievements for the project.
  12. To ensure the safety and supervision of children and young people during all sessions, including the completion of risk assessments.
  13. To monitor and evaluate the project with the Young Carers’ Project Manager by regularly capturing feedback, utilising agreed monitoring tools and submitting regular reports on the project.
  14. To ensure that decisions or judgements which involve a high level of risk are referred to the Young Carers’ Project Manager.
  15. To identify young carersthat would benefit from othersupport within the Young Carers’ Project.
  16. To respond in line with North Tyneside Carers’ Centre’s safeguarding children policies when safeguarding concerns are raised.
  17. To develop a clear understanding of individual schools’ safeguarding children policies and ensure school staff are familiar with North Tyneside Carers’ Centre’s safeguarding children policies and procedures.
  18. To develop positive working relationships with partners, including Child to Child training providers and schools.
  19. To utilise social media platforms to enhance the project, in line with the ideas of the young people alongside the Marketing and Communications Coordinator.
  20. To keep written records of all sessions, interactions with families and young carers on the organisations contact record management system.
  21. To write reports as requested by the Young Carers’ Project Manager about specific young carers to contribute to North Tyneside’s Early Help Pathway/ support good information sharing about vulnerable children.
  22. To accompany children on transportation to and from sessions where this is required to ensure their engagement in the project.
  23. To undertake all of the necessary administrative duties to ensure the smooth running of the project.
  24. To undertake any other reasonable requests for work as directed by theYoung Carers’ Project Manager/ Chief Executive Officer.

Resources

2.1To identify and source the resources required for the project in line with the project budget.

2.2To work with the Young Carers’ Project Manager and the Finance Manager to ensure spend is in line with the project budget, including providing regular updates and keeping records of any project related spends.

2.3To source funding opportunities if a resource need is identified that is not covered in the project budget. Young people should be involved in the process of sourcing and applying for funding if additional funds are required.

2.4To attend all training relevant to the post, as advised by the Young Carers’ Project Manager.

2.5To notify the Young Carers’Project Manager when resource problems affecting service delivery occur.

Staffing

3.1To attend and participate in regular supervision in accordance with The Young Carers’ Project Manager according to organisational policy and procedures.

3.2To attend a full induction at the start of employment.

3.3To attend regular team meetings and provide updates to the rest of the Young Carers’ Project team on the progress of the project.

3.4To attend regular whole staff meetings.

4. Quality Assurance

4.1To work to agreed explicit service standards as determined by the Young Carers’ Project Manager.
