1.1Law in Brief

Law in Brief is produced by the Bradford University Law School and focuses on issues currently being researched and debated within the Law School and the wider legal community.

2.General gateways to legal information

2.1 LawBore

LawBore is a service developed by City Law School at City University, it provides links to a variety of free legal information, including legal news headlines and blogs plus video clips for example on mooting techniques.

2.2Delia Venables Legal Resources

This is a website maintained by Delia Venables, providing some useful links to resources for law students.

2.3Roll on Friday

Roll on Friday is a useful website for searching for legal jobs and city training contacts plus news, views and gossip on various law firms (including what they pay!). You must register first to receive an e-mail each Friday afternoon with the week’s top legal stories.

2.4Law Pages

Law Pages is a website mainly concerned with criminal law, providing for example Crown Court daily lists, plus a range of sentencing information. A useful website for searching for legal jobs and includes directories of solicitors and barristers (contact details, specialism etc.)

3.1.BAILII

BAILII is a gateway to free, independent and non-profit access to British and Irish public legal information, including cases and legislation.

4.Legal abbreviations

4.1.Cardiff Index to Legal Abbreviations

The Cardiff Index allows you to find the meaning of abbreviations for English language legal publications (law reports and legal journals) from the British Isles, the Commonwealth and the United States.

5.Government gateways to statutory and Parliamentary information

5.1.Legislation.gov.uk

All UK statutes from the Magna Carta to the present day.

5.2United Kingdom Parliament

The Parliament website provides detailed information about the UK parliament and legislative process.

6.Official gateways to EU and international law

6.1Eur-Lex

This is the official portal to EU law. It includes access to the case-law of the Court of Justice.

6.2European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR)

Database of case-law concerning principles based on the European Convention on Human Rights.

6.3HUDOC

This is the official portal to the European Court of Human Rights and provides access to the case-law of the ECHR and documentation from the European Commission of Human Rights.

6.4Infolaw

The Infolaw website publishes bi-monthly providing information and articles written by lawyers and legal practice IT specialists.

6.5International Court of Justice

The International Court of Justice (ICJ) is the principal judicial organ of the UN. It is based in the Peace Palace in The Hague, Netherlands, and its role is to settle, in accordance with international law, legal disputes submitted to it by states and to provide advisory opinions on legal questions referred to it by authorized United Nations organs, notably the UN General Assembly.

6.6International Criminal Court

The International Criminal Court (ICC), not to be confused with the International Court of Justice (ICJ), is a permanent tribunal to prosecute individuals for genocide, crimes against humanity, and war crimes. Its official seat is in The Hague, Netherlands, but its proceedings may take place anywhere.
