  • Why was the “Dona un Albero a Roma” (give Rome a tree) project organised?

The idea was to increase the number of trees, in order to ensure restoration of the urban climate. Trees absorb considerable amounts of carbon dioxide. They filter pollutants in the atmosphere while also producing large quantities of oxygen. As natural wind barriers, they also safeguard biodiversity and act as key thermoregulators.

  • Who can give Rome a tree?

Everyone can. You can donate a tree as an Italian citizen or as a foreigner.

  • Tell me about the procedure for donating a tree.

The procedure is entirely on-line, conforming with the process of public administration dematerialisation. Trees are safeguarded and, as an asset,they are accorded their true value since we also reduce our consumption of paper.

Users apply on-line. They send their application by e-mailto can call 060606 for assistance.

The application is considered fully valid when users send an e-mail message to at includes:

  • When do I get confirmation that the application has been successful?

You will receive confirmation when the “Dona un albero a Roma” office sends you an e-mail confirming receipt of the application duly filled in in all its parts, which includes the ID code (of the A1D0000 type).

If you don’t want to choose a tree, the office will choose one for you.

You can choose from among the species generally to be found in the parks and gardens of Roma Capitale. The typologies available are listed below:

  • How much does donating a tree cost?

The charge is € 250.00 per tree donated.

  • Can I donate more than one tree with a single application?

Yes, you can. More than one tree can be donated by filling in the spaces accordingly in the application form: total sum for donation, corresponding number of trees, and the Municipio/Municipi (municipal borough/s) to which you wish to make the donation.

  • In which parks or gardens or other areas can I have the tree that I have donatedplanted?

One parkland area is available in each “Municipio” (municipal borough). As soon as the number of donations assigned for each area has been reached, the pertaining offices shall indicate other areas.

  • Who is responsible for looking after the trees?

The task of looking after the trees is assigned to Rome’s parks and gardens department operational unit (U.O. Gestione Verde Pubblico del Dipartimento Tutela Ambientale –ProtezioneCivile di Roma capitale).

  • What happens if the tree fails to take root and flourish?

Rome’s parks and gardens department operational unit (U.O. Gestione Verde Pubblico del Dipartimento Tutela Ambientale –ProtezioneCivile di Roma capitale)shall replace the tree.

  • How long can the dedicatory message be?

The message must not be of a length of more than 140 characters.

  • When are the trees planted?

The trees are planted during the autumn/fall-winter period (this is the right time for planting the selected tree types).
