December Monthly Meeting held on Monday, 21st December 2009, at Kells Civic Offices, Headfort Place, Kells

Presiding: Cllr. B. Curran

Present: Cllrs. S. Drew, C. Ferguson, T. Grimes, F. Lynch, B. Reilly,

S. Reilly, O. Sweeney.

Also Present: Mr. B. McGrath, Town Manager, Mr. J. Flanagan, Town Clerk,

Ms. C. O’Reilly, A/Asst Staff Officer.

At the outset a vote of sympathy was passed with the family of the late Terry Murphy, President Tidy Towns Committee. Mr. Murphy had been involved with the Tidy Towns Committee for a number of years and had held the positions of Chairman, Secretary and Treasurer.

Minutes

The minutes of the November monthly meeting held on 16th November 2009 were confirmed on the proposal of Cllr. O. Sweeney, seconded by Cllr. B. Reilly.

Correspondence

The following correspondence was marked as read:

  • Letter from Failte Ireland in relation to the operation of Kells Heritage Centre.
  • Letter from Kells & District Motor Cycle Racing Club thanking the Council for facilitating recent meeting.
  • Latter from Meath Association of London thanking the Cathaoirleach for attending recent function.
  • Letter from National Roads Authority in relation to Service Areas on national road dual carriageway network.

Monthly Reports

The monthly reports, as circulated, were noted.

Manager’s Orders

Therewere no Manager’s Orders circulated.

Other Business

The Town Clerk informed Cllr. Lynch that footpaths are not normally gritted, but will give attention after roads.

Cllr. Grimes requested that a letter be sent to the ESB in relation to a number of public lights not working.

Cllr. S. Reilly was informed that free parking was in place each day for the week before Christmas from 11-6pm and had been communicated through local media.

Cllr. Drew requested that Headfort Grove hill be gritted during current bad weather. He also enquired if CCTV could be provided in the area.

Members were informed that the Council would facilitate the setting up of a Residents Association in Magdalene Court.

Members were also informed that the issue of the Artefacts in the Heritage Centre would be address early in the New Year.

Members congratulated Cllr Grimes on being elected Chairperson of Meath VEC.
