1:30-3:30pm – Opioid epidemic: Proving medical issues for prosecution. This session will discuss focus on scene investigations, such as determining the specific context of the death, reconciling prescription information and pill counts, identifying illicit substances, taking samples for testing, etc. It will also discuss investigating the medical history of the victim, toxicology requirements, and autopsy findings. Finally, challenges in dealing with fentanyl overdoses will be discussed.

3:45-5:00pm – Opioid epidemic, continued: Criminal, Civil, and Administrative remedies. This session will discuss criminal prosecutions, from both a federal and local perspective, as well as civil and administrative remedies available under federal and state law.

WEDNESDAY, APRIL 19

8:00-10:00am – Going Viral: Examining Cameras in Policing. This session will discuss numerous aspects of video and law enforcement, beginning with an assessment of the current climate of the constant presence of cameras in our society (e.g., body cameras, cell phone video) and how that affects the public’s view of law enforcement. This session will discuss human performance factors and perceptions, including methods by which to overcome biases in investigations, as well as the relationship between stress and perception. In addition, policy issues, including recent trends in use of force policies, will be discussed.
