PURPOSE OF POSITION

Under direction of an assigned supervisor, the Custodian is responsible for cleaning and maintaining the health and safety standards of the School. The Custodian provides a clean and safe learning and living environment for employees and students.

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS

·  High school diploma or GED; ability to read and write.

·  One or more years of successful custodial experience.

·  Must follow directions and perform work duties with limited supervision.

·  Good communication skills that allow positive interaction with staff, students and the public.

·  Good work ethic is required.

·  Good physical condition in order to perform custodial duties, including lifting, bending, stooping, climbing and reaching.

New employees in this position must provide documentation of immunity or immunization against tetanus, diphtheria, and measles/rubella, and of tuberculosis status by skin test or X-ray within thirty (30) days of hiring, and at such additional intervals as may be determined by the immediate supervisor.

Navajo /Indian Preference:

Consideration for employment will be given to Navajo, American Indian or Alaskan Tribal member with the required documentation including the necessary qualifications to meet the minimal requirements of the position. The Navajo/Indian preference law shall apply in all aspects of the position.

CLASSIFICATION

This is a non-classified, non-exempt support position employed on an as-needed basis. Payment rate is according to the NPS Support Salary Scale.

Note: Notwithstanding the above, this position is subject to possible furlough, or reduction in force under NPS, Inc. Personnel Policies; due to unforeseen reductions in program funding that requires such general program changes.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

1.  Work hours vary between days, nights and some weekends, if needed.

2.  Primary job responsibilities include mopping, sweeping, stripping and waxing floors, sanitizing restrooms and other public areas.

3.  Cleans and sanitizes restrooms/bathrooms using appropriate practices and procedures.

4.  Cleans, dusts, and wipes furniture; sweeps, mops, or vacuum floors; empty/clean wastebaskets and trash containers; refill restroom dispensers.

5.  Strip, clean, buff and apply floor sealer and floor finish to hard surface floors, vacuum

and shampoo carpets.

6.  Use and maintain assigned power equipment and hand tools; buffers, auto scrubbers,

extractors, high pressure washers, high speed buffers and vacuums, brooms, mops, and

squeegees for the cleaning and general maintenance of floors, walls, carpets, furniture,

etc.

7.  Washes walls and windows; uses ladders when required in work assignments.

8.  Scrubs and disinfects toilet floors daily and cleans, disinfects and sanitizes all sanitary fixtures and drinking fountains daily.

9.  Follows instructions regarding the use of chemicals and supplies. Use as directed and know when to use safety gloves and equipment.

10.  May occasionally be assigned to other activities such as removing snow or debris from sidewalks.

11.  Moves furniture, equipment, supplies and tools on an incidental basis.

12.  Washes accessible interior and exterior windows. Clean blinds. Launder cleaning rags anddust mops.

13.  Complies with the LEED Recycling Policy by ensuring that recycling bins located at various areas of the building are for recycling of paper, glass, plastics, cardboard, metals, and batteries.

14.  Assists with the setup of facilities for meetings, classrooms, conferences, events, etc.

15.  Keeps all assigned facilities and premises neat and clean at all times

16.  Complies with all safety standards, infection control policies.

17.  Provide documentation and records of MSDS sheets in their janitorial closets.

18.  Washes all windows inside and out at least twice each year and/or frequently if necessary.

19.  Keep all floors buffed and waxed and in an attractive condition and in good state of preservation.

20.  Cleans all chalkboards at least once a week (with teacher approval).

21.  Empties trash receptacles and complies with local laws and procedures for the storage and disposal or trash, rubbish and waste.

22.  Performs other duties as may be assigned by the supervisor.

23.  Supports and efficiently carries out responsibilities in accordance with Navajo Preparatory School Board, Inc. (NPS) Policies and Procedures.

Will be evaluated in accordance with the Navajo Preparatory School Board, Inc. policies and procedures.
