FOOD BANK CHALLENGE
VIRGINIA CAREER AND TECHNICAL EDUCATION STUDENT ORGANIZATIONS
PROJECT DETAILS
For Immediate Release
September 15, 2009
Virginia’s Career and Technical Education Student Organization Officers areconducting a food drive that we hopewill make a major impact on food banks that are experiencing critically low shortages because of the economy. Our challenge to other states is to effect change in food banks, not just in Virginia, but in the entire country. In order to effect that change, the Virginia CTSOs would like to challenge other state officer teams across the country.
THE CHALLENGE
Can your state officer team win the challenge? DECA students in Florida—can you beat the Virginia DECA state officers? HOSA students in California—can you beat Virginia HOSA? FFA in Nebraska—do you have what it takes to beat Virginia FFA? We, the state officers of Virginia’s Career and Technical Education Student Associations challenge our counterparts across the nation to a battle of the bulge!
This project will run between September 15 and December 30—critical times for food banks across the nation. State officer teams should contact their local chapters and challenge them to collect food for their local food banks. At the end of the collection period, local chapters will submit their totals (validated by principal) to their state officer team.
While we encourage you to recognize participating chapters, we will be recognizing the largest state organization winner through the Association for Career and Technical Education (ACTE).
Simply have your chapters donate food to their local food bank. The food banks should provide you with a receipt as to the number of pounds of food donated. Chapters should attach their receipts to Appendix A (Local Chapter Donation Form). Be sure the principal validates the form. State officer teams should combine their local chapter forms and submit Appendix B (State Chapter Donation Form) with a copy of the local chapter forms to Sandy Mills, LordFairfaxCommunity College, 173 Skirmisher Lane, Middletown, Virginia, 22645, FAX 540.868.7100.
Forms and additional information may be found at the following Facebook link:
If you have any questions concerning this challenge, please contact Sandy Mills at , 540.868.7043, or Ann Craddock at .
Forms will be accepted from state organizations until January 15, 2010.
