...LAKESHORE FLOOD WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 8 PM EDT

TUESDAY...

* LOCATIONS...Lake Ontario shore of Wayne, Cayuga, andOswego

counties.

* LAKE SHORE FLOODING...Very strong west to northwest winds will

continue this afternoon. The strong winds and wave action will

combine with above normal lake levels to increase shoreline

erosion and lakeshore flooding in bays and inlets.

* TIMING...Through early Tuesday evening.

* IMPACTS...Significant increase in shoreline erosion,

especially in areas where the lakeshore is unstable following

the erosion from earlier this year. Strong winds will cause

lake levels to rise in addition to the wave action with

lakeshore flooding is possible in bays and inlets.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

A Lakeshore Flood Warning means lakeshore flooding is occurring,

is imminent, or is expected to occur. People in the warning area

should take immediate action to protect life and property. Listen

to local radio...television...or NOAA Weather Radio for further

information.

A Low Water Advisory is issued when water levels are expected to

be below the critical mark for safe navigation. Vessels may

become grounded. Contact the Coast Guard for the latest water

level. Mariners should use extreme caution or consider waiting

until water levels rise.

...WESTERLY GALES CONTINUE TONIGHT...

...LOW WATER LEVEL ON WESTERN LAKE ERIE THROUGH TONIGHT...

.Cold front crossing the central Great Lakes this afternoon, with

post frontal southwest-west gales still expected for the majority of

Lake Huron.Wind gusts up to 40 knots even appear possible over the

open waters of Lake Huron. Wind gusts around 30 knots will be more

common over Lake St. Clair and western Lake Erie through this

evening, and Small Craft Advisory remains in effect. There will be a

slow diminishing trend below gales overnight but solid 25-30 knot

gusts remain likely through Tuesday. High pressure building into the

Ohio valley will then bring improved conditions Tuesday night into

Wednesday as the next low pressure system organizes over the plains

states. This system will produce unsettled weather and moderate

southerly wind shifting to the west as it moves through the Great

Lakes Thursday followed by high pressure Friday.

levels will rise above the critical mark through the evening.

* WIND AND WAVES: During the Small Craft Advisory...expect

sustained winds up to 23 knots from the west with gusts up to

28 knots.The largest expected significant waves will be 4

feet with a potential maximum wave height of 5 feet.

* TIMING: The maximum winds are expected around 4 PM EDT Monday

with the largest waves expected around 4 PM EDT Monday.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

A Low Water Advisory means water levels are expected to be

significantly below average. Mariners should use extreme caution

and transit at the slowest safe navigable speed to minimize

impact.

A Small Craft Advisory means that wind speeds of 21 to 33 knots

are expected to produce hazardous wave conditions to small craft.

Inexperienced mariners...especially those operating smaller

vessels should avoid navigating in these conditions.

5 DAY ICE DISCUSSION...

A ridge will build east across the Great Lakes region over the weekend

with well above normal temperatures developing. Temperatures will trend

closer to normal across the upper Great Lakes by Monday while above normal

temperatures continue across the central and eastern Great Lakes through

the middle of next week. What limited ice remains near the Soo Locks and

in northern portions of Georgian Bay will continue to deteriorate over the

coming days. No significant ice growth is expected for the remainder of

the season.
