Introduction

The Postgraduate Student Project Award recognises achievement in planning, undertaking and reporting aMasters-level project/dissertation in a relevant aspect of ecology or environmental management.

Criteria and Eligibility

The Postgraduate Student Project Award for 2018 will be awarded to one Masters degree project/dissertation undertaken in the 2016-2017 academic year, 2017 calendar year, or equivalent if a different academic year system is used.

The Postgraduate Student Project Award will be judged against the following criteria:

  1. How the project positions the subject within the wider literature, showing an awareness of current understanding and debate.
  2. Discussion and arguments are informed by a well-defined and identifiable primary source base.
  3. The project shows an ability to offer informed and constructive analysis of source material.
  4. The project shows originality in interpretation and/or analysis of results.
  5. The project provides new evidence or information of relevance to ecology and environmental management in an applied context.
  6. How well the project is presented (e.g. structure, citations, bibliography, appendices), the standard of writing (e.g. style, spelling, punctuation and grammar), clear and concise abstract/summary and explanation of the methodology used, appropriate use of statistical analysis (if relevant).

The Postgraduate Student Project Award is open to CIEEM Student members and those who have since upgraded their membership but were Student members whilst undertaking the submitted project. Any students on a CIEEM-accredited degree programme or pathwayare also eligible.

How to Enter

Entries for the Postgraduate Student Project Award can either be self-nominated by the student or nominated by the project supervisor. The entry will, however, require the support of both. The project supervisor does not need to be a CIEEM member.
