Purpose of the MSN Program

Our program intends to provide fellow students with the develepment and maintanance of high- quality nursing qualifications such as effective organization and supervision skills. The program also aims to have nurses who are intellectually and mentally prepared individiuals that can effectively use their insight and knowledge where it is demanded. Fellow students are expected to maintain their professional development through making use of technology and other tools such as academic journals and other disciplines. The completion of our program will result in the nurses’ contribution to the quality of life for societies and individuals by providing services in a vast array of fields.

Upon completion of the MSN program, the students will have:

1.  acquired and developed contemporary theoretical and practical field knowledge.

Program Requirements

A student is required to successfully complete the designated program of courses meeting a minimum of 120 ECTS credit requirement and have a minimum GPA of 2.00/4.00 and no F1, F2, K, or Z grades

Required Pre-requisite Degrees: Bachelor’s Degree in nursing, healthcare or midwifery (only in Gynecology and Obstetrics Nursing) program of a faculty of health sciences/ school of nursing or vocational high school with health departments. Applicants from schools and/or programs other than nursing may have to take pre-requisite courses based on their curriculum.

Assessment and Grading: A variety of assessment methods such as quizzes, mid-term(s), assignment(s), project(s), and a final exam are implemented in the program. Assessment methods may include classical test(s), multiple-choice test(s), performance evaluation(s), and product evaluation(s).

HEM501 Physiological Processes and Nursing Assessment I

This course is designed to assist students in developing expertise and in- depth understanding in the field of nursing. It will help students to appreciate the client as an individual and develop skills to function as an independent nursing practitioner. It will further enable the students to function as educators, administrators, and researchers in the field of Basic Nursing.

HEM 503 Conceptual Framework of Nursing I

The course is designed to teach fundamental concepts of nursing, health, illness, environment, nursing and well being in theory and practice. Students develop a foundation for holistic nursing practice utilizing physical and psycho-social skills to plan. Students provide individual nursing care based on nursing values and ethical principles.

HEM 505 Gynecology and Obstetrics Nursing I

This course aims to provide knowledge about and teach skills essential to women's health, gender concept in society and its reflections in the health of women, phases of women's life, characteristics of these phases, reproductive health, maternity, fetal and newborn health concerns in perinatal periods, frequent gynecologic problems, and nursing requirements in these periods.

HEM 507 Teaching Nursing Fundamentals I

In this course, students are taught the philosophy on nursing education in Turkey, get informed about the process of developing educational programs, shown their ability in using instruction methods and techniques and the principles and methods of success assessment on Nursing Fundamentals course and Applied Nursing Fundamentals course.

HEM 509 Practice of Gynecology and Obstetrics Nursing

The course is designed to equip students with theoretical and applied knowledge related to maternity and women’s health and skills such as self-development in line with contemporary literature in gynecology and obstetrics.

HEM 511 Sexual Health

The course is designed to teach sexual health and relations of individuals and couples in life cycle beginning from adolescense; provide information on common problems experienced in this area and skills to offer consultancy for individuals or couples on sexual health issues.

HEM 513 General Human Embryology

The course will review human embryology from fertilization to the end of the fetal period including topics such as current concepts in mammalian morphogenesis applied to the development of various organ systems; the principles of teratology; mechanisms of malformation and the etiology and pathogenesis of some of the more common human congenital abnormalities.

HEM 515 Gyno-Oncology

The course intends to teach skills required for independent practice in Gyne-oncology nursing, core knowledge of gynecologic oncology, gynaecologic cancer risks and prevention strategies, basic science of gyne-oncology, screening and prevention, procedural skills, perioperative nursing interventions, radiotherapy, chemotherapy, palliative care, medical ethics, hereditary cancers.

HEM 517 Surgical Nursing I

The course aims to integrate knowledge obtained from the other fields with basic concepts of surgical nursing. It also focuses on the comprehension of interrelationships, identification of problems, making analysis and reflecting of knowledge, and problem-solution skills.

HEM 519 Applied Surgical Nursing

This course helps to develop advanced knowledge and skills to provide equal care for critical patients who undergo surgery. Students are equipped the skills to acquire their roles as caregivers, educators, researchers and administrators in specific surgical procedures.

HEM 522 Basic Concepts in Emergency Surgical Nursıng

This course includes the teaching of the knowledge, skills and behaviors related to the protection of the legal rights and providing support for the family/individual, providing coordination among the units, making decision properly and quickly related to problems by evaluating the time through priorities (triage) in for surgical patients in emergency.

HEM 523 Intensive Care Nursing

This course includes the teaching of the knowledge, skills and behaviors related to interdisciplinary coordination, critical thinking and decision making processes, close observation and evaluation of the patient through risk factors assessed in intraoperative and early postoperative period.

HEM 525 Contemporary Approaches In Surgical Nursing

The course aims to teach current practices and innovations in surgery and equip students with theoretical and practical knowledge in their profession.

HEM 527 Physical Assessment

This course includes the learning experiences concerning cognitive and psychomotor skills needed for physical assessment and living history in adult.

HEM535 Pediatric Nursing I

The course intends to teach students the basic foundations and principles of pediatric nursing that deals with the characteristics, needs, health problems and developmental problems and the rights of children and services provided for them in the world and in our country and teach students first, second, and third level health protection and the maintenance of it.

HEM537 Pediatric Nursing Education

The course aims to teach students child health concepts related to learning and teach them how to become role models for students in applied clinical practices and provide learning environments and create opportunities for students to objectively evaluate their performance.

HEM539 Pediatrics and Ethics

This course teaches students the basic ethical concepts and codes in pediatrics so that they can use them efficiently in their professions.

HEM541 Mental Health Nursing I

This course aims to teach the etiology and epidemiology of mental health problems, reviewing theories in psychiatry nursing, and concepts of mental health care and ways to improve it.

HEM543 Mental Health Nursing Teaching

This course aims to teach theoretical knowledge, which involves the maintance of mental healt on firt, second, and third levels.

HEM545 Health Service Communications

This course discusses the communicational tools, methods, and strategies used in the health practices in relation to the concept, theory, objectives, and principles of communication and teaches the student the ability to analyze the communicative methods used in the practices through the use of examples.

HEM 502 Physiological Processes and Nursing Assessment II

HEM 504 The Conceptual Framework of Nursing II

In this course, students discuss the pasti present and the future of health care delivery systems from the perspective of nursing. Students analyze various human responses to challenging health conditions to provide holistic and comprehensive nursing care. Students will utilize the data collected for an interpretive analysis of health status. Students are expected to develop in-depth knowledge about obstetric and nursing fundamentals in the mastery level of expertise.
