A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
TO EXTEND THE CONGRATULATIONS OF THE MEMBERS OF THE SOUTH CAROLINA GENERAL ASSEMBLY TO THE SUMMERVILLE HIGH SCHOOL “GREEN WAVE” AND THEIR HEAD COACH, BOB CROWLEY, ON WINNING THE 2003 CLASS AAAA GIRLS CROSS COUNTRY STATE CHAMPIONSHIP MEET AND TO COMMEND THEM FOR THEIR HARD WORK, COMPETITIVE SPIRIT, AND DEDICATION TO BECOMING A CHAMPIONSHIP TEAM.
Whereas, being a member of a sports team allows young people to have the opportunity to learn the skills of cooperation and teamwork while developing great athletic talents; and
Whereas, to be a champion in cross country track, all members of the team and coaching staff must have outstanding leadership and physical abilities; and
Whereas, with the guidance and leadership of Head Coach Bob Crowley, the girls cross country team of Summerville High School faced intimidating opponents and faced tough meets but were rewarded with the chance to become State Champions; and
Whereas, along their journey to the championship meet, this team enjoyed victories in several meets and every member produced top performances when it counted the most; and
Whereas, capturing the title of State Champions, the 2003 girls cross country team brought the Summerville “Green Wave” their first state championship win for cross country since 2001 and the team finished the season with an impressive record; and
Whereas, the state meet was a close race between Summerville High School and Northwestern High School but the “Green Wave” capped a victory with a score of 7088, knocking off Northwestern, the reigning state title holder; and
Whereas, with the top six runners returning next season, Head Coach Bob Crowley will have a strong team that definitely will be tough competition for other high schools and will likely have no problem defending their State Championship title; and
Whereas, the members of this exceptional team are Amanda Pulliam, Sara Johannesmeyer, Heather Lisie, Lauren Barker, Audrey Bone, Sarah Massenburg, Marichele Heyward, Carlissa Heyward, Lauren Jaynes, and Megan Tucker; and
Whereas, it is with great pleasure that we recognize the physical abilities of these young South Carolinians and hope that they will use their athletic skills and abilities in their future endeavors. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:
That the members of the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, extend their congratulations to the Summerville High School “Green Wave” and their Head Coach, Bob Crowley, on winning the 2003 Class AAAA Girls Cross Country State Championship Meet and to commend them for their hard work, competitive spirit, and dedication to becoming a championship team.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the Summerville High School Girls Cross Country Team.
