Activity description:

Day trips on inland waterways for disabled, and able bodied people onboard Serenade.

All skippers are licensed and fully trained and boats are insured for conveyance of passengers.

Vessels are licensed by the Marine and Coastguard Agency (MCA) and comply with their regulations at all times.

All passengers are provided with buoyancy aids if necessary.

Vessels are equipped with buoyancy rafts, fire fighting and first aid equipment in excess of DTI requirements.

Vessels are also equipped with mobile phones for emergency purposes and for contact with the base.

attached to this Risk Assessment.

Craft - year of build 1981. Length 65’, Beam 10’ 6”, Draft 1’ 10”.

Maximum load - 32 passengers plusminimum crew of 2.

Emergency procedures

Fire

  1. Identify source of fire
  2. Assess extent of fire and advise Skipper
  3. Attempt to put out fire as directed by Skipper
  4. Control and assist passengers as directed.

Collision and grounding

  1. Identify source of any flooding and advise Skipper
  2. Direct and assist passengers as required
  3. Prepare for evacuation and launch of buoyancy apparatus as directed by Skipper

Man overboard

  1. Alert Skipper of person in water; indicate position
  2. Throw lifebelt as directed by Skipper
  3. Prepare for recovery using scrambling net

Evacuation

  1. Open emergency exits
  2. Launch buoyancy apparatus
  3. Assist ambulant passengers through side hatches
  4. Assist wheelchairs to front lift as directed by Skipper

Engine failure

  1. Prepare to drop anchor as directed by Skipper
  2. Assist passengers to disembark when ordered

Steering failure

  1. Prepare to fit manual tiller
  2. Prepare to drop anchor if required
  3. Assist passengers to disembark if required
