FAT CATTLE can be moved to a Red /slaughter only market WITHOUT pre-movement testing.
6 Day Rule does NOT apply
STORE CATTLE must be pre-movement tested and the 6 Day rule applies (Pre-movement test lasts 60 days)
4 YEAR TESTING PARISHES
Cattle can move to any market without pre-movement testing
All WEDNESDAY MARKETS are RED/SLAUGHTER ONLY MARKETS
FEEDING COWS, STORE AND BREEDING CATTLE, SHEEP AND PIGS will be held on SATURDAYS

The market is licenced to accept cattle from TB Restricted Herds, ie. Herds that have had a TB breakdown in our Red (Slaughter only) markets subject to the following conditions:
a. The animals being presented for sale must have had a negative TB test in the previous 30 days
b. In order for you to bring your stock here you will need to obtain a licence (TB24B) from your local Defra Animal Health Office.
Obviously there will be many concerns and questions that you may have, we will continue to update you in this publication or better still ring anytime

SHEEP EID
The following applies to movements made from 01.01.2011 – for sheep indentified since 1st January 2010
1. Lambs/Hoggets destined for slaughter before they reach 12 months of age and identified with a single tag bearing flock mark (electronic or manual)
These sheep can be recorded on movement documents as a batch. There is NO requirement to list all the flock numbers, even when a “batch within batch” consignment is moved.
2. Lambs/ Hoggets (Stores) must be double tagged and must be electronic
These sheep MUST be individually identified on the movement document, unless they are moving to Newark or any other approved CPRC (Central Point Recording Centre) where the tags will be read and recorded on behalf of the keeper.
Keepers using the CPRC facility must populate their Holding Register with the read information within 48 hours of the sheep leaving their holding
Holding Registers:
1. ALL sheep moved MUST be recorded in the keepers Holding Register “Keepers” include: farmers, dealers, markets, abattoirs etc. This has been a requirement since 31st December 2009.
The recording requirements include:
· All individual numbers, if full EID has been applied
· All flock numbers, if single slaughter tags have been applied

Another good turnout of lambs this week, but plenty of weight around – proving harder to sell.
Today 462 lambs in the SQQ meaning 553 above 45½kgs. When you are getting above that weight you want to focus more on £s per head than p/kg. Let’s continue to see Hogs on a Saturday please.

Cull Ewes
Another great Show of Ewes in Newark, and again week after week bucking the Midlands and National Trade for ewes, today levelling at £72.47 – miles ahead of the competition selling from £30 to £110. The leaner Mules are hard to place but the meated ewes are in demand.

Young Bulls - 156 averaged 186.85p
Again a very similar entry on offer today and again very few of the best handiweights forward.
More very heavy and very ordinary bulls on offer today.
Trade very similar on the week and although useless in real terms, still comparing very favourable against deadweight comparables and liveweight reports elsewhere.
The bulls this week were consigned by Ian Wildgoose who sold two Limousins at 247.5p - £1415.70 and £1368.68 with Bulls to 243.5p - £1587.62.
David Dodds sold Limousins to 242.5p - £1338.60. David Scarborough sold Limousins to 231.5p - £1453.82. Messrs R Cooke & Sons sold Blues to 229.5p - £1363.23.
Today R grades 227p plus with U+’s 221-226p and –U grades 213-220p with R grades
204-212p and O+’s 186-194p.
Again today very heavy 720kgs plus bulls were discounted but age no problem and
16 months and over not discounted at all!!
