Human Resources Volunteer

Task description

Human Resources volunteers make an important contribution to Christian Aid’swork byassisting the HR team with administrative work.

They help the Strategy and People Management Department deliver a high standard of customer care both internally and externally by ensuring Christian Aid’sadministrative systems are maintained.

As a volunteer in Christian Aid’s head office you will have the opportunity to use and develop your administration skills, be part of a team and contribute to Christian Aid’s work in eradicating poverty.

What will I do?

  • review, retrieve and archive files
  • assist the HR operations team with administrative duties connected to recruitment and selection
  • learn about Christian Aid and what it is like to work in a voluntary organisation
  • general office tasks such as filing and copying
  • data entry
  • Assist the Volunteering Officer with administrative task
  • Assist the Volunteering Officer with any volunteering events

HR volunteers may work on any tasks agreed with their staff contact. However they should not take on tasks without the agreement of a member of staff and appropriate training. HR volunteers should not attempt to deal with enquiries that they are unqualified to answer and are notexpected to undertake the recruitment process.

How much time can I give?

Ideally you will be able to volunteer one day per week over a period of 3months. You can discuss this with your staff contact as this arrangement can be flexible and may vary.

What skills do I need?

This will depend on the tasks to be undertaken, but may include:

  • good attention to detail
  • good organisational skills
  • an ability to work as part of a team
  • an ability to use your initiative
  • an ability to maintain confidentiality
  • good IT skills (experience using Excel and Word)

What support will I receive?

  • appropriate induction and training for your volunteering role. Volunteers working with confidential information will be asked to complete on-line training in data protection
  • supervision while undertaking your volunteering task
  • one-to-one support sessions with a named contact within Christian Aid
  • quarterly volunteers e-newsletter
  • out-of-pocket expenses up to £15 per day

Are there any other requirements?

  • you will need to be in sympathy with Christian Aid’s values and vision
  • you will need to live within reasonable traveling distance of our office in Waterloo
