Attend and support the school by meeting once a month to discuss how we can better meet the needs of our second language learners.

Attend an open meeting once a month. The agenda/minutes are posted outside the office. The council supports the principal in making important decisions regarding academics, safety, and budget.

Principal’s Message

Dear Selby Lane families,

We are off to a great start this school year! Our staff has established a school wide reading goal of increasing the number of students who can read proficiently by 10% or more. You can help at home by reading with your child, asking them questions about what they read, and establishing a routine and make sure they are reading. All students should be reading at their own level, not too hard and not too easy, at least 30 minutes every afternoon/night.

Please come to our Back to School Night on Thursday, September 8th. It is an important night to get to know the teachers and expectations this year. This is not the time for an individual conference with the teacher—please make an appointment to do so.It is important you are informed of the Common Core State Standards (CCSS) for your child. As a reminder, please send your child to school every day and on time. School starts at 8:20am. We have established a school wide goal to improve student attendance this year. Every minute and day of instruction with your child counts!

5th Grade News

This year the fifth grade Outdoor Ed trip is scheduled for October 10-14, 2016. We expect every student to go. The cost for each child is $305, which includes meals, lodging, activities, and supervision. Registration forms must be turned in by September 16th, and the trip should be paid in full by September 30th.

You can start right away fundraising by selling candy bars. A box of 30 candy bars costs $30.00. You can make $30.00 profit by selling candy bars as a way to raise money for the trip. You may purchase the box of candy from the office.

Shirt Sales

Last day to order school shirts will be Friday, September 2nd. Shirts will be delivered by the end of September. We will contact you when they are ready for pick up.Remember, black t-shirts can be worn only on Fridays for Spirit Day and black sweatshirts can be worn any day with a white collared shirt underneath.

Important Policies

You must sign in and sign out at the office and receive a Visitor’s Badge to be on campus to maintain the safety of our students. All students must be signed out if leaving prior to the end of the day.

Due to concerns regarding allergies, food safety, and obesity, classrooms do not celebrate holidays and birthdays with food. Teachers and students recognize each other in many other productive ways without involving food.

Please do not purchase or make food to share with your child’s classroom for special occasions. We appreciate your support in this area.

Trunk or Treat

We invite you to participate in our 5th Annual Trunk or Treat on Monday, October 31st at 3:00pm in the school parking lot. Costumes or parties are NOT allowed during the school day. Your child may change into his/her costume after school. Look for information soon about how you, too, can decorate your vehicle’s trunk for Trunk or Treat!

Box Tops

This year, our school will be participating in the Box Tops for Education TM program. Sandy Kahman is our Box Tops Coordinator for Selby Lane. Clipping Box Tops is an easy way for you to help our school buy what it needs. Box Tops are each worth 10¢ and they quickly add up to real cash for our school. This school year, our school's earnings goal is $1,000.00.To help our school, just look for pink Box Tops on products, clip them, and send them to office.

A Message from the Cafeteria

If your child eats school meals and does not qualify for free meals, then please prepay for your child’s meals at ezschoolpay.com or by check. If your child’s meal account reaches a negative balance of $7.50, as a courtesy, your child will be given a lunch of cereal, milk, fruit, and a vegetable.

A Message from the Nurse’s Office

Students should never have any medication at school. If your child needs to take a medication during regular school hours, we need a doctor’s authorization letter (forms available in the office). The doctor needs to specify the kind and amount of medicine needed. We also need the original container that the medication came in. If you child has frequent headaches, you need to get a doctors note and bring the prescribe pills to the school office with the note. We are NOT authorized to give any medicine to the student without a doctor’s note. If you child brings any medicine without a doctor’s note, parents will be required to come to pick up the medication from the office.

Pick Up/Drop Off Procedures

For the safety of your child and to abide by traffic laws

  • Use one of the two drop off lanes
  • Pull forward and allow your child out of the car ONLY at the crosswalk
  • Make a right turn only out of the drop off lane
  • Refrain from cell phone use
  • Do not park in drop off lanes
  • Do not park in neighbor’s driveways
  • Do not park next to a fire hydrant
  • Do not make U-turns in the street
  • Wait for pedestrians to cross the street
  • When parking on the street, cross the street in the crosswalk

Apoye a la escuela asistiendo a la reunión mensual para conversar cómo podemos mejorar para satisfacer las necesidades de nuestros estudiantes cuyo idioma natal no es el Inglés.

Estimadas Familias de Selby Lane,
!Hemos tenido un buen comienzo este año escolar! Nuestro personal ha establecido una meta escolar común de incrementar en un 10% o mas el numero de estudiantes que lean a un nivel competente. Usted puede ayudar en la casa leyendo con su hijo, estableciendo una rutina y asegurándose que lean. Todos los estudiantes deben de leer libros adecuados a su nivel de lectura, no muy fáciles o muy díficiles. Ellos deben de leer como mínimo 30 minutos diarios por la tarde o noche.

Por favor venga a la Noche de Regreso a la Escuela, el dia Jueves, 8 de septiembre . Es una noche importante para poder conocer a los maestros y las expectativas de este año. Este no es el momento para conferencias individuales con los maestros, por favor haga una cita si necesita hablar con ellos individualmente. Noticias de 5to Grado

Este año el viaje de 5to grado de Educación Al Aire Libre (Outdoor Ed) está programado del 10 al 14 de Octubre del 2016. Esperamos que cada estudiante pueda asistir. El costo por estudiante es de $305, que incluye comidas, alojamiento, actividades y supervisión. Los formularios de inscripción deben entregarse en la oficina de la escuela a mas tardar el 16 de Septiembre, y el viaje debe estar pagado totalmente para el 30 de Septiembre.

Usted puede recaudar fondos vendiendo chocolates. Una caja de 30 barras de chocolate cuesta $30. Usted puede hacer $30 de ganancias por la venta de una caja. Puede comprar la caja de chocolates en la oficina.

Ventas de Playeras y Sudaderas

El último dia para ordenar camisas con el logo de Selby Lane, será el Viernes, 2 de Septiembre. Las camisas se entregarán a fines de Septiembre. Nosotros le dejaremos saber cuando puede recoger su orden. Recuerde, las camisetas negras solo se pueden usar los viernes “El Día para Promover el Espíritu Escolar” y los sudaderos pueden usarse cualquier día de la semana sobre una

camisa o blusa blanca de cuello.

Pólizas Importantes

Para mantener la seguridad de nuestros estudiantes, todo visitante debe reportarse a la oficina y firmar su entrada y salida y recibir un pase de visitante para permanecer en las instalaciones. Si el estudiante debe salir más temprano de la hora regular, asegúrese de notificar a la oficina y firmar la hoja de confirmación de salida.
Debido a inquietudes respecto a alergias, seguridad alimentaria y obesidad, las aulas NO celebran días festivos y cumpleaños con comida. Los maestros y estudiantes se reconocen mutuamente en muchas otras maneras productivas sin compartir alimentos.
Por favor no compre o cocine comida para ocasiones especiales para compartir con el aula de del estudiante. Apreciamos su apoyo en esta área.

“Trunk or Treat” Golosinas en el Carro

Lo invitamos a participar a nuestro quinto evento anual de “Trunk or Treat” Golosinas en el Carro, que se llevará a cabo el dia viernes, 30 de Octubre a las 3:00pm en el estacionamiento de la escuela. NO se permiten disfraces en la escuela. El estudiante puede cambiarse en su traje de disfraz después de la escuela.Busque información de cómo puede decorar el maletero de su vehículo para la actividad de “Trunk or Treat”.

Box Tops
Este año, nuestra escuela participara en Box Tops para el Programa de Educación TM. Sandy Kahman es la Coordinadora de Box Tops de Selby Lane. Recortar Box Tops es una manera fácil de apoyar a nuestra escuela a comprar lo que necesita. Cada Box Top vale 10 centavos y rápidamente se convierte en dinero real para nuestra escuela. Este año escolar, nuestra meta es recaudar $1,000. Busque Box Tops de color rosa en los productos, recórtelas, y tráigalos a la oficina.

Un Mensaje de la Cafetería

Si su hijo come comida de la cafetería y no califica para comidas gratuitas, usted puede pre pagar por las comidas ingresando a ezschoolpay.com enviándo un cheque o pagando en efectivo en la cafetería. Si la cuenta de la comida de su hijo alcanza un balance negativo de $7.50, como cortesía, a su hijo se le dará un almuerzo de cereal, leche, fruta, y verduras.

Un Mensaje de la Enfermera

Los estudiantes nunca deben de tener ningún medicamento en la escuela. Si su hijo necesita tomar un medicamento durante las horas regulares de escuela, necesitamos autorización de un médico (formularios disponibles en la oficina). El médico necesita especificar el tipo y cantidad de medicina que necesita. El medicamento debe estar en su envase original. Si su hijo tiene frecuentes dolores de cabeza, necesita una nota del médico y llevar las pastillas recetadas a la oficina con prescripción. NO estamos autorizados a dar medicamentos a los estudiantes sin ninguna nota del médico. Si el niño trae algún medicamento sin la nota del medico, los padres deberán recoger el medicamento de la oficina.

Procedimientos de Dejar y Recoger a Estudiantes

Para la seguridad de su hijo y para obedecer las leyes de transito, le solicitamos lo siguiente

  • Utilice uno de los dos carriles donde se dejan y recogen los estudiantes
  • Maneje hacia adelante y deje que su hijo salga del carro SOLAMENTE en el paso de peatones
  • Al salir a la calle gire solamente a la derecha.
  • Absténgase del uso del teléfono célular
  • NO se estacione en los carriles donde se dejan y recogen a los estudiantes
  • NO se estacione en las entradas de autos de los vecinos
  • NO se estacione enseguida del hidrante
  • NO haga vueltas en U (U-turns) en la calle
  • Ceda el paso a los peatones
  • Cuando se estacione en la calle, cruce la calle en el paso de peatones.
