JOB DESCRIPTION FOR EARLY YEARS & FOUNDATION STAGE (EYFS) TEACHERS

General

This job description should be read alongside the range of duties of teachers set out in the School Teachers’ Pay and Conditions Document. (2016)

Members of staff should at all times work within the framework provided by the school’s policy statements to fulfil the general aims and objectives of the School Development Plan in order to enhance outcomes for children and staff.

The teacher will agree major objectives with the Headteacher or line manager to achieve the highest possible standards of education for children. These objectives will be reviewed through the annual Performance Management cycle.

The teacher will liaise with the Headteacher and/or the Deputy Headteacher and plan for professional development.

Main Aim of the Teacher

To develop the learning, social, physical and moral capability of each pupil so that each child realises his or her potential.

Specific Objectives

  1. To inspire children with enthusiasm and a love of learning.
  1. To actively implement the school’s commitment to the safety and well-being of children
  1. To have a thorough up to date knowledge of the EYFS curriculum
  1. To demonstrate excellent classroom practice, including thorough and effective assessment for learning
  1. To ensure the best possible welcome and induction programme for all children entering the School by working in close partnership with the Early Years Team and where appropriate other local Early Years settings.
  1. To communicate and consult effectively with the parents of all children and to report to parents on the academic and social progress of the pupils.
  1. To liaise closely with the Reception Class Teacher to ensure the smoothest possible transition at the end of the year.
  1. To organise classroom and learning resources in order to create a rich and stimulating learning environment, to promote independence.
  1. To ensure the appropriate balance of teacher led and child initiated activities.
  1. To provide indoor and outdoor learning experiences that will make use of our fantastic school grounds and meet the requirements of the EYFS curriculum.
  1. To prepare and develop teaching materials, teaching programmes, methods of teaching and pastoral arrangements.
  1. To use a range of strategies for teaching and provide a model and guidance for appropriate classroom behaviour.
  1. To be responsible for the effective management of children and staff, encouraging the children to develop their self-confidence and independence.
  1. To assess, record and report on the development, progress and attainment of pupils in line with the requirements of the EYFS through the children’s Learning Journals
  1. To maintain the confidentiality of school records.
  1. To regularly monitor and input children’s progress into the school’s tracker system.

Wider professional Responsibilities

  1. To fulfill all professional duties as laid down in the Conditions of Employment of School Teachers.
  1. To participate in the Staff appraisal annual review procedures and to participate in further training and professional development and use the outcomes to improve the teaching and learning of pupils.
  1. Contribute to the whole school ethos,promoting our school values and maintaining high standards of behaviour.
  1. Support other members of staff (teaching or non-teaching) in ensuring that Westfield continues to be a caring community with high expectations of conduct from all.
