PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE
GIVING THANKS
OFFERING OURSELVES
Offertory
* RESPONSE #592 “Praise God”
* PRAYER OF THANKS AND LORD’S PRAYER
Ever faithful Lord,
Ever giving Son,
Ever present Spirit,
For the many gifts you grant us
and the opportunity to enjoy these things;
“thank you” is so inadequate,
but it’s all we have
to show our gratitude in word, in thought and in
action.
So thank you, Lord,
and may our thanks move beyond words
to transform us into thankful people,
faithful people,
seeing people,
followers who see need and see the need to act,
disciples who love to live and live to love,
apostles who serve you by serving others.
We offer all things in the name of Jesus,
who taught us to pray: “Our Father . . . . “ Amen.
(The Lord’s Prayer – traditional setting, p. 16, blue hymnal)

↕ CALL TO WORSHIP based on Psalm 126
What are your dreams, people of God?
To be filled with laughter;
to cry with joy, not with sorrow.
What are your hopes, people of God?
To be free of the chains that bind us;
to shout with thanksgiving, not with anguish.
Rejoice, people of God; here and now,
God makes our hopes and dreams reality.
God’s arms enfold the broken-hearted,
and rescue those whose spirits are crushed.
To those who fear the future,
God’s promise is this:
whatever is needed will be provided.
O taste and see how good God is!
Happy are those who take refuge in the Living
Rock.
↕♫ HYMN #477
“Ye Servants of God, Your Master Proclaim”
↕ PRAYER OF CONFESSION Mark 10: 46-52
Living and loving, Lord,
open our eyes that we might see this world in all its
stunning beauty
the breathtaking wonders of your creation
and the divine interconnectedness of all things.
for it’s when we place ourselves alongside your
splendor and glory,
that we realize how infinitely small we are
yet never insignificant to you,
the one who restores us, encourages us,
includes us, loves . . . even us.
Open our eyes to see our own failings,
personal and communal,
and open our eyes to the promise of forgiveness
and restoration
as we quietly admit to our sin and place these
things before you
in confidence,
in confession,
in the stillness of your presence …
(silent confession of sin . . . )
Lord, open our eyes to see,
open our hearts to you,
and Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayers. Amen.
↕ ASSURANCE OF PARDON
↕♫ RESPONSE #324, verse 1
Open my eyes, that I may see,
Glimpses of truth Thou hast for me;
Place in my hands the wonderful key
That shall unclasp and set me free.
Silently now I wait for Thee,
Ready my God, Thy will to see;
Open my eyes, illumine me,
Spirit divine!
